Warner Bros has launched a Year of Superman web site, with a brief run down on the hero's history in various media, and a DVD schedule that will cripple the average Superman fan's wallets this year. Including:

the remaining seasons of Lois & Clark,
the remaining seasons of The Adventures of Superman,
the remaining seasons of Superman: TAS,
    a brand new S:TAS movie,
Krypto, the Super-dog (pretend it's for your kids)
Justice League & Justice League Unlimited season box sets,
    The new season of Smallville,
the long awaited release of the Richard Donner cut to Superman II,
a six-movie box set iuncluding the Donner cut, all of the other Reeves movies, Supergirl & Superman Returns,
    the two 1940s serials and
the Superboy TV series from the 1980s.

Superman I & II were going to be filmed at one time and then cut into two movies. Similar to how Back to the Future 2 & 3 were done as well as the Matrix sequels. But Donner had serious creative differences with the producers and was fired before SII was finished. And then both Gene Hackman & Marlon Brando walked out.

Brando went as far as to threaten legal action if they released SII with his name attached to the film, or any footage of his work. They had to rewrite a huge chunck of the movie including the opening. (They refer to the original opening act in the released version of the film.) And they finished the remaining scenes with Hackman by filming his double from behind. All told there is about about a half hour or so of footage was shot by Donner that was not included in the final release of the film. It's being reworked with that footage. For as good as SII turned out, it was basically a giant cluster f***.

Just S:TAS and JL for me.

No interest in any of the other TV stuff and the new movie releases are too late in the day for me to buy on DVD, Donner S2 is already confirmed for HD and I can't see the first one being far behind.

I'd rather pay money to have nails put into my eyes then pay it for copies of Supergirl, Richard Pryor feat. Superman and Superman 4 - The Quest for a Budget.

Any chance of a single release of the Supergirl movie? I'm told it's crap, and I believe it, but I love me some Supergirl.

I want to see Supergirl, not for any particular reason except that I haven't seen it before. And, from what I've seen, the actress playing Supergirl is pretty easy on the eyes.

Despite what you've heard, it's a fun movie. Plot's completely incomrehensible, but it still makes more sense than the new Supergirl comic series....

I agree. I'm looking forward to that as well as the others. I just wish they had put at least one scene from it in the clips.
