    EDIT!

I went back to my box of junk and found a defunct bot with round hipjoints that were held together with a pin.. so long story short.
He has arms that have a double jointed elbow (ish)
but it did tahe some blood (cut my finger) , sweat and a big scare

I had to cut the arms in half on the smallest part and then I had to cut two cavities to make room so I could glue the pegs in.
It all worked out and now here are some pictures!
    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

it is a small hinge that works quite well, O believe that once it is painted no one would be able to tell this was not originaly there..
Now I need to fix his upper torso and connect it to his legs and then it is time to cut him open and make sure all lines up, and transforms as it should do in my head.. I am getting excited!

    Getting close!!

I am curently still a bit working on how to get the upper torso to connect the right way but I am getting close!
eventrough the arms still give a little bit of kibble, I do not really see a way around that at the moment so I might just leave it for now.
as soon as I have his spine to work and I am able to rotate the arms (well actually the front fender pieces) the right way arount and have it all connect as it should, I think it is time to go all Lockdown on him and get him to become the Ratchet he is meant to be.. (never mind the legs so far down, it is since it is not yet glued on to the shell, it sits higher up)

So, for now I will focus on the upper torso and how to get it all working.. after that it is time to get it all transform!

they actually are of a Junker Battleblade Bumblebee modded to fit with Ratchet's legs.
they work quite well and give the option of moving the hips out to the back so the legs can flip up for Altmode.

I have been on a Holliday to France so sorry for the delay in posts, I will get back to ratchet this week!

So.. a week was a bit longer than expected but he is back on the operating table.

I am messing around a bit with his upper body at the moment to be sure his alt mode would tab together without stress and look clean while not hindering the transformation.
I will post pictures later today.

So... Ratchet.. he is not dead ( I kept Lockdown on another shelf, with Ironhide and Prime in between)..

I have been struggling with the transformation since nothing can pegg together and it leaves things wobbly and untidy so that it does not look right.
That said, I did finish up on the decals.. I want them as laserprinted waterslide decals so I can put them on Ratchet after he recieves his base paint and seal it all in with his gloss clearcoat. that way I get the stripes and lettering and I get my glossy finish..

here is what I came up with:

This will be printed 4x on a paige so I can use them on the botmode as well.

I have 3 other ratchets of the same type (they are dirt cheap since no one likes them) so I will put thyem all together today and see what they look like and what to do next.

I will keep you guys posted!
Work is a bit slow so I do have some more time to play with him again!

How exactly will you go about making those decals? So many Primes I wanna paint, but I'm afraid of fudging the flames if I do them by hand. I'd love to know how to make waterslide decals myself.

almost every printshop can make waterslide decals for you. all you need to do is deliver the file and the size you need them and they will be made, it is cheap to, like 3-4 euro per paige..
they can even be cheaper in the states at the right printshop.

I have had some progres today!
I have had issues integrating the lower part of Ratchet to his upper part and after a while came fed up with it. and did a Ironhide repaint in between to clear my mind.
Then I played around with another HFTD Ratchet and got the idea to use his regular robotmode as a base.

Then when I at a flea market found a one step changer Ratchet, witch is kinda like the same size I got the idea of using that ratchet's back piece since it has the details like the shoffel and such detailed in and went to work..
I cut open the back of the one step changer Ratchet and removed 8mm from the center to get the measurements to line up.
then I removed everything from in there to make room for Ratchet's body.
This is what the aft section looks like now:[IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

I just need to figure what to do to make it all come together in robotmode with all the kibble and where to put it.

I feel renewed and look forward to getting back on track with Ratchet!

And so.. more cutting came in to play..
But I also glued the roof sections together for now.
    [IMG] [IMG]

The plan is to use the curent lightbar hinge to fold the first part of the roof up and have the rear part with the spare wheel fold over that part. and then I need to see how and where to put the pieses that make his sides and of course where to put the rear wheels..

Like this.. I believe this is the way to go with the backpack..

I added the small roofpiece to the hinge on the cab of Ratchet to this I will add a hinge that has some room to connect the two roofpieces into a backpack.

I added also added the big side panels to the big roof section with hinges so they can fold in to each other and get tucked away inbetween the two roofsections, leaving a clean backpack.
    [IMG] [IMG]
I am not worried about the overlaping pieces since there is room in the other roof for it to stick up a little.

This is where I plan to be with the roofpieces folded onto a backpack:

This leaves me for now with scratchbuilding the aft section of Ratchet's cab (the rear doors) and finding a place on the alt mode for this pieces:
I also need to find a place to put the rear wheels as well.. but for now it feels like I am finally getting somewhere with him.
