Does anybody know if "they" (whoever "they" may be) are planning to produce Volume 3 of the war within series? I bought the omnibus thinking that it would contain all 3 volumes only to learn later that they canned the plans.
Well they only got 3 (or 4?) issues in before Dreamwave went tits up, and it's all wrapped up in legal shenanigans. So don't hold your breath.
you think maybe the fallen being such a big part of this movie might put a fire under their butts (pun intended) to get the rights to finish it?
Until all the legal wrangling is done War Within Volume 3 will remain unfinished, and even if the legal stuff is sorted out I wouldn't expect it to be completed either to be honest. Andy
Given the sales of the TF books at the moment I don't see their being that much interest. Besides paying money to wind up a tale from a continuity that has nothing to do with the TF stories you are doing doesn't really make much sense. Andy
I can't say I was overwhelmed by the first three issues, definitely weaker than the first two The War Within series. Still, I'd buy the remaining issues if IDW were release them.
It'll unfortunately never be completed. IDW only purchased the rights to DW materials that weren't held in dispute (completed works that contributors were paid for). Before the rights to Vol. 3 can even be transferred, the writers and artists and everyone else involved in the project needs to be reimbursed for their work. As long as it remains in limbo forever those people don't get paid so there's no incentive to sell the rights. The purchase costs for the rights would have to be enough to cover fees owed, court fees, and the rights to the work. There's no way that WWI Vol. 3 would sell enough copies to recover those kinds of costs (plus production/advertising). Plus, there's the logistics of trying to figure out who had already gotten paid what. (Though from most accounts it would be safe to assume "nobody" and "nothing".) I don't know if IDW purchased the rights to completed works or the IPs themselves, so I don't know if they could still create projects in the WWI timeline.
