Well, after work today I'm picking this game up.

Anyone else here ready for some mediocre to poor movie-based game play of the Tron variety?

    Sadly, I am. :D

Reviews have it as a mediocre to bad game with very repetitive gameplay and a "barely there or worth mentioning" story. Multi-Player seems to have gotten the thumbs up from IGN, but not from anywhere else. Pretty much exactly as I predicted the moment I saw the first trailer.

I will say Wolverine: Origins is still the only movie game, where the game is better than the movie.

Giantbomb said they liked the multiplayer of Tron: Evolution but everything else was very disappointing. Does it at least have easy achievements?

I did read somewhere that the controls are so crap that when you get an achievement or trophy for finishing a chapter, you feel you truly deserve one. :D

This should be an interesting waste of my hard earned money.

Wife is surprising me with it. (last time I was in GameStop, they asked if I wanted to make another payment on my pre-order for it... whoops!) I hope reviews are wrong, because I don't want to lie to my wife about how GREAT it is when I rarely play it... :(

    You poor, poor soul. :D

The romantic within me hopes the reviews are wrong, too.

I tend to like some games that people revile.

I played a demo at best buy, and i liked the combat but the light cycles felt a bit clunky to me. It was enough where I kind of am waiting on reviews before I decide to go full blow and buy it, or just wait for it to hit 20 dollars down the line

I'm 1/2 done with the game... and I can say 1st & formost its a platforming game. Another thing is that the people giving the game a low score because they don't bother to learn how to use the controls of the characters don't have any business doing reviews of the game if they suck at gaming. Its not a traditional Film based game this one is not covering the events of Tron Legacy but the events set before it. The combat system in the game is based on constant movement so its as to say standing in one spot fighting enemies will cause you to repeat areas of the game more often then not whereas if you use the area to your advantage against a group of enemies you will survive and make note of the fact that your enemies will run to the same health recharge grids on the wall as you.

    Well, that's encouraging!

Now I'm kinda looking forward to playing this.

And, yes, there do seem to be a lot of bitchy reviewers out there whom I wonder about their skillzzzz.

Played it at Comic-Con, it was depressingly not very good.

This. Giant Bomb has videos where they play along with the developers (http://www.giantbomb.com/quick-look-ex-tron-evolution/17-3480/), and if you don't learn how to play the game the way they want you to, then you won't get much out of it. Constantly moving around will net you a good flow of attacks. They also explain that the world is set up in a way where you could reach seeming unreachable areas, bypassing enemies or getting a big jump on them.

Ebert has no business reviewing videogames, he is old and out of touch.

Ebert is a movie critic, that's what he's good at, everytime he even comments on video games I roll my eyes.

Why would you plan to buy a shitty game? Just don't buy it.

And yet I still maintain what I said.

I respect Ebert as a movie critic, but ever since he said 'video games cannot be an art form" (paraphrased) I just ignore anything he has to say on the subject.

Video games can be artistic. :mad

Been enjoying the game so far. Traded some stuff in so the 7 bucks wouldn't have hurt too much. I'd say a 7.5 is a good grade for it. It borrows from games like Prince of Persia, and the Daft Punk theme and music is welcoming. Looks great in 3D, but haven't tried the Move controls. I also love the disc play. But it's not a 100% polished game either. It is to Tron what ROTF was to Transformers, only I'd give this one a bigger nod for giving the story mode more than just random levels with pointless goals, and weaving a new story into the game.
