    "TRANSFORMERS...opens June 28 everywhere...except US and UK."

Lol. This is getting ridiculous. It's almost as if they're delaying the release in the US just to coincide with the 4 July holiday while the rest of the world gets to enjoy the movie a week earlier. As for the UK...well, they're getting screwed, as usual when it comes to TFs.

Fortunately I don't live in either the US or UK, so I hope I get to see it June 28 like almost everywhere else.

Its awesome that we get on the 28th of June in Australia. However I do feel for you guys that dont, I mean it is an American movie and you should have the right to see it first. Still, kind of makes up for the lack of cool transformers stuff we get here.

the 4th of July is an important date in the US.

    1. It's on a Wednesday. By factoring in a mid-week release into weekend box office figures, Transformers has the opportunity to be "the biggest movie of all time". (I bet Michael Bay would LOVE to have that attached to his name. ) Oh, also, when US box office sales are reporting, the movie studio will have all international figures to be released at the same time.

They're going to paint TF as the biggest success of all time.

    2. July 4th is when THE biggest movie of the summer is traditionally released. Since summer is movie season, the biggest summer movie becomes the biggest release of the year.

    3. I'm guessing, but I bet there's some sort of logistical formula behind it. Release on this day to maximize views ... blah blah blah ... all the way to the timed DVD release (which turns into a second launch event)

Getting screwed, sure. Proper reasoning behind it from a business standpoint, you bet.

the UK screening date could have been chosen to maximise ticket sales - since it corresponds to the first week of the UK school summer holidays.

Still sucks though - we have to wait a whole month after the first screening.

My only complaint is this- everybody is a criminal. I remember when Square pushed back Advent Childrens American release by about 6 months yet it was already released in Japan. At the time, I was going to school, and pretty much everyone had pirated copys of the full Japanese version with English subtitles at the school within a couple days. Now, that was only my school. I can imagine that a good part of the market appeal of that movie was around the college age, and this was probably happening around the country. I can only guess at how badly they shot themselves in the foot, ruining a lot of rentals and some sales. Anyways, yeah, like Fairy Princess says, the U.S. will have an earlier debute then July 4th, just not in the theatres. I am not really sure how this will effect things, but I think it would have been better just to release it at the same time. I am sure they have their reasons though, and I can only assume they have people aware of the piracy market, so we'll see.

EDIT: Oh, and I can't wait to read TFW forums and see how everyone who sees the movie before us sneaks in little plot spoilers like those who read the script already do!

The 4th should be the early showing and everyone else can wait till the following Friday. That would make it seem like a treat instead of a punishment for the day that it is.

I'll be seeing it on the 29th then. That way I can gauge whether I should give MB my 10 bucks.

I love how the movie studios extend Wednesday through Friday as "opening weekend".

    Kinda ridiculous.
