Funny thing, I wanted all of those, though Hasbro's Broadside and Nautica were not quite what I was hoping for.

That may be changing sooner than you think with some companies starting to venture away from G1 characters.

How did this turn into Hasbro bashing? It's hilarious that anyone thinks someone will buy dozens of 3P figures for their 7 year-old to play with. OH WAIT, YOU'RE JUST UPSET THAT HASBRO DOESN'T 100% COMPLETELY CATER TO YOU. Okay, got it. Thumbs up! We're cool dude!

People are hilarious. Hasbro is fast food and you're complaining that you're can't order a steak through the drive-thru. Granted, I think Hasbro is really good fast food but its still fast food. It's also fast food that OFTEN caters to the hardcore fans. Believe it or not, the existence of 3P is not evidence of Hasbro's failure. It's evidence that Hasbro and Takara have done a great job nurturing and protecting the brand for 30+ years. Your personal feelings and desires have nothing to do with the repeated success of the franchise through many multiple toylines. When was the last time we had an actual flop? G2? Even Armada, which had very blocky figures was an extreme success.

Back on topic-- I'm very excited that this is getting produced and I can't wait to see it!

Holy shit, this is one of the most brilliant things I've read on Hasbro vs. 3P...

    And this is another.

So if anyone hasn't watched it yet, the first season is now available. No Transformers yet...I'm assuming they will appear in the 2nd season.

Yeah, TFs, Hello Kitty, and Star Trek come out some time this year.

Must say though, thoroughly enjoyed the first four eps. It's not a boring, methodic documentary or an absurdly overdramaticized one. It's just the people involved giving their accounts over a brief history. It's amusing, the people shown are genuinely colourful, and I can't wait for TFs. It certainly... slants history especially in the case of G.I.Joe (the existance of Microman/Micronauts isn't even mentioned, and Marvel's contribution is somewhat downplayed but I guess we'll get a lot more in the TF episode) but otherwise it's pretty accurate as far as I can tell.

I thought I saw on Twitter that they got @Maz to talk about pre-TF stuff for the Transformers episode.

Not quite, they asked me a few questions about some preTf and early TF stuff by email, and I answered the best I could. Wouldn't say I made any kind of significant contribution to the episode besides helping with the accuracy of a short segment...if that.

    All the best

Transformers is part of the first season. Only 4 of the 8 episodes are currently available.

Saw that they even got Michael Bay for this. It doesn't matter what you think about him, the fact is that he had a huge influence on the brand. I wonder what he has to say.

I want to know more about the decision to shutter G1 during 1991 and most of 1992.

How was the decision made ? Were they going to cancel the line outright before someone talked them into a re-launch (G2) ?

Actually Netflix is doing that with smaller shows I find, and yet still labels each "batch" a season. I think it's to soften the often year long waits between real season-length batches, but that's just my wild speculation.

Demand faded. Look at He-Man. That shit was off the hook and still burned out. They all did back then. Transformers actually would've been cancelled after G2 had they not done Beast Wars.

I always liken it to a bird taking off with one super strong, super built-up beat of it's wings. First beat gets them soaring, but as they fall they have to beat again. Transformers is unique in that it just kept flapping to gain altitude rather than just another beat of its wings and then crashing.
