If Volkswagen didn't do a marketing campaign for the film, then nothing happens, especially since the film is using the old Beetle and not the current model.

It does feel a little pre-emptive to cancel the car, though, when you have a movie promoting the model pretty heavily. If there were a Transformers movie featuring Prowl, Bluestreak and Smokescreen out there in 280ZX form, I'd also raise an eyebrow if Nissan pulled the plug on the Z line suddenly. Instead, wouldn't it make more sense to do "movie editions", even if they're 370Z models? Volkswagen should be slapping Autobot symbols on current movie-yellow Beetles and telling Transformers fans "come and get 'em!"
