Can't' say that I'm excited for this movie. Spongebob was once (dare I say) genius in storytelling, clever writing/jokes, and some pretty good messages. That all changed for me after the first movie around mid 2008, and Spongebob went from comedy gold to high mentally ******ed status. Unless this movie brings Spongebob back to his glory days, or at least halfway to it... Then I won't be running out to see it.
So this is happening? Again? *sigh* I'll probably go see it for nostalgia's sake, and hope that it will be mildly entertaining, but I don't expect much. The series started to drop after the first movie came out.
Spongebob took a gruesome turn after the movie. I don't think I'll see this one. I mean, I've seen people getting their faces ripped off, people skinned, toenails getting TORN out, brains and other organs leaving the body, and car wrecks that'd kill anyone involved.

Well by that logic, people should be offended by Spongebob Squarepants, since it has violence in it. Hillenburg left the show after the first movie, since it was originally meant to end the series.
That happened before the movie, too. Remember when Patrick shaved Spongebob down to a brain and eyeballs so he could be a ghost?
^ That was actually pretty tame compared to the disturbing shit they've shown in the later episodes. Remember Spongebob's splinter? The scene you're referring to was funny and clever, be we as the audience had no idea on the extent of Spongebob's makeover until the very end, and even then Spongebob didn't look gruesome or even all that disturbing... To me at least. Not compared to say the face freeze episode, or when Spongebob got his face carved off by the Chum Bucket's door.

Don't forget Courage the Cowardly Dog! As for the movie...Bleh. Never really liked Spongebob. Not to say I've always hated him, but I never got into the show. Didn't see the appeal. Now, recently, I can say that I absolutely hate Spongebob.
