just want to get your opinions on something thats been buggin me for a while, i have done my piranacon combiner, it back to WIP to try and involve seawing in the combination, but it has 2 mega, 2 voyager and 2 deluxe robots in it. my devestator wip has all 6 bots large deluxe sized plus extra combination parts i have plans in the distant future for superion, bruticus, menasor, defensor, predaking being voyager with 4 deluxe limbs ( no unicron or primus parts, so a bit like redlines menasor) but i also have plans for coputron and abominus having 1 deluxe and 4 basic limbs. so the question is, will they look OK together? i have seen them differant sizes in cartoon and comic but will the look ok as part of a classic collection? i will prob stick with theses decissions mainly for bot choices, just interested what you guys think.
So for your Computron and Abominus, you're using the same concepts (1 deluxe, 4 basic limbs) as me? Well, they would look like updated versions of themselves. The others will just be oversized, hell, it's okay to have somethings bigger than others, that's how modding is
Your Piranacon seemed fine, to me. I hope you figure out a way to get Seawing incorporated (his BFG-mode looked bad ass). Like DW said, using the smaller classes will result in the combiner looking just like a more modern, updated version. Should be virtually no size difference between the original and your custom - which is absolutely fine, for our Classics 2.0 figures. Not every gestalt has to use 40% of Primus or Unicron to look cool, after all. - Alty
^^THIS^^ I'm doing my Bruticus Minimus in Legends scale. That is to say, 4 limb bots are Legends with Basic/Scout-ish sized leader! I do have some other combiners planned, scale is still open, other than my Superion Micros, which will be Micromaster limbs with a Mini-con scale Silverbolt! I personally like a Voyager-ish Leader with Deluxe limb-bots. This size fits well with Classics 2.0, giving them more height than a Leader class. Gestalts were supposed to be towering, ominous warriors!
Well for my Movie Bruticus Project i used 4 Deluxes for the limbs and a Voyager for the body, the body(well from what iv seen) is always a figure size or two lager then the others.
It al depends how far you want to take your customs. I made a scout class Predaking(90% done) and it is extrememly smaller than any others I have done, but I plan to make a larger one later. bigger isn't always better. I also would like to add that Ptitvite's formula, using Primus arms and unicron's crotch worked so well because it mimicked the G1 aesthetics exactly, he had a crotch piece and arms to complete the gestalt. I have heard it before, but the gobot's puzzler is the only perfect gestalt, I believe without any partsforming. I say if you're happy with it, who cares?
RID RailRacer as well, granted only 3 bots, which in a way is more impressive! Also RID Build Team, with 4 bots, but the combined Gestalt suffers IMO! I like the "less add-ons" style myself!
True, and Landcross only had a head, chest/hip piece added on. There' a few "near perfect" combiners floatin' around. If you look at the abstract concept, Tidal Wave is a perfect combiner, just not Gestalt!
For a 5-bot combiner, yeah, a Voyager torso with Deluxe limbs do looks best. Or even an Ultra torso with deluxe limbs like thyvipera's Superion. As long as the torso bot is larger than the limbs, it should be fine. But really, if the thing looks good, then it looks good. About the partsforming/add-ons thing- There really is no other way to make a Devastator. Even in the cartoon those arms came from nowhere. Granted, I think the Primus/Unicron arms thing may have been taken a bit far (not really talking here as much as I am eBay), but it's clearly been shown that you can make just as good of a gestalt without the use of them. Though I do personally prefer them with. Mostly for the added articulation.
The possibility of a bicep-swivel and a farther bending elbow that you'd get with a Primus arm connection over, say, a half-tranformed Starscream by itself as the arm.
