It's most likely because the guy can fit Thor's human alter ego while being a workable match for the god of thunder himself. What he lacks in natural build can easily be made up in costume and CG effects. It's easier to add to someone then it is to take away. I just hope it's a good flick. It doesn't have to be Iron Man type quality (though that would be awesome), it just needs to be about as good as the new Hulk. For this Avenger's project to work out fully, all of the "prequel" films need strong showings and actors that capture the characters faithfully. They got two down, just three more to go.
