I just want to know everyones thoughts on the series. I want to get the TPB but if it doesent play nice with the movie I'll leave it alone. I read other threads and the TF Wiki and I just want everyone's input - THANKS :]
Honestly I thought it was absolute shit. Started off alright before it just went to crap. The artwork became cluttered, busy and confusing. Starscream's monologues were terrible and read like something out of a 14 year old's fanfic. The characters were flat and pointless (Arcee? Yeesh). The plot really did nothing (and was also pretty stupid) as they had to make sure they would contradict the "official" continuity as little as possible. I borrowed a copy from a friend and I feel ripped off.
I thought it was good -but not great. The extras in the TBP were nice, and the art was good. But I'm not sure I liked the story. So -there were like seven Autobots left on Cybertron?
I looked through the TPB, I like the art but some of the bots come off looking like "future" G1 characters while other look like they may be from the movie it self, half the time I didnt know what I was looking at but it still seemed cool.
I really enjoyed it. The artwork does get cluttered at times. I'm not one for stories that try to make the Decepticons into 'heroes', but Starscream's perspective on things was very 'Roman-esque'.
I agree, there are some cool moments along with the occasional clutter of artwork but I found the entire story confusing. Starscream arrives on Mars then goes to Cybertron then goes back to Mars? What if in the new movie Starscream is already on Cybertron then they have to think of a way to send him back again. Other than that I like the character designs for the walmart and other exclusive guys. Making them look like they fit in the movie-vese had to be a pain and most of the time it took me forever to guess who's who, great idea to but the profiles in the back of the book by the way. However this story did give us a movie design for Cosmos, Ill take that as a win.
It was my personal favorite series of 2008. I bought all the toy only characters and I was a stickler for finally seeing them in action in the book.
I liked it. It wasn't perfect, but I loved the art atyle, and the focus on SS was refreshing. At least it was better than the Movie Adaptation TPB. That was toilet paper.
ROS was good. The end felt so rushed, though. the art also kinda degenerated towards the end. The best parts were Starscream on earth, retrieving Frenzy, you can really see how motivated he was.
Pretty much this. A pretty good first issue lead to the rest of the series being "Let's throw in what amounts to little more than cameos of toy only characters then 'splode them!"
