Logical and maddening all at the same time.
Luckily, the DCAU animation will continue on Kids WB and direct-to-video. Like the New Frontier movie that Bruce Timm is working on. (Look towards the bottom of this link's article.)
This should probably be merged with the thread in TFGD.
I dont like this excuse at all. First and foremost, CN is a cable network. Just because they are kid-oriented doesnt mean they are a toy company. You dont see TLC cancelling "Trading Spaces" because they wont make any money selling the "Trading Spaces Toolbelt". WB still airs "Gilmore Girls", even though "Gilmore Girls Noise-Cancelling headphones" wont make any money. Of course every network would love the income of a hot property to market, but a network's product is its shows.
Good programming = advertising money, and this is where the money is made. Getting rid of good a show just because you arent seeing the profits of its toyline is a silly reason. How were the ratings for JLU & TT?
The idea to produce more of their own programming with revenue that it doesnt have to share is a good move for CN, however it doesnt preclude them from airing other shows. How many hours need to be filled in a week? Especially on CN, theres plenty of time for their properties as well as DC shows on a weekly schedule! Its silly to make it an either/or arguement. The more diverse the shows the more viewers. And for a TV network thats never a bad thing.
I just love how at the end of the day, the money made from all of it remains in the huge machine called Time Warner. I just hope they feel a backlash from all of this and their new shows fail. About 4/5 of CN's original programming is crap IMO. Heck, the only thing I watch on their Boomerang Network is the hour and a half block where they show JL, Superman, and Batman.
The thing is, the choice CN is making here is between "money" and "even more money". If it didn't matter to you what shows were on and you had to choose between a fairly big pile of cash and an unbelievably fucking gigantic pile of cash, which would you choose?
... and ain't it funny how they mentioned that they were too late to save Justice League and Teen Titans(although that's no big loss), but if we act fast, maybe we can save Krypto!
the abomination that is Cartoon Network can rot...
Quoted for truth.
I think it is a mistake, and they will loose from the gamble.
Isn't this the same thing that Fox did in the 90's with X-men and Spider-man. They were their highest rated shows but they wanted to push their own programs instead because it gives them more money in the long run.
Wasn't WB kids whupping them shortly after that?
I say good luck to them selling Squidbillies, 12 oz mouse and Mayor Goes To Tom merchandise.
^funny but it has nothing to do with toonami.
Sadly enough I'm sure they'd ink a deal with Hot Topic and it'd sell like hotcakes.
But like Cheetatron said, not much to do with the topic at hand.
The thing that annoys me about the whole jlu cancelation was that that was one of the few shows along with titans that both kids and adults watch and both really enjoy for alot of the same reasons. Those two shows had the points where they could market action figures and toys and such to kids and also somehting for adults to watch and have an intresting plot. On cartoon network anymore its that ed edd and eddy crap which I swear everytime I watch I feel iq points dropping. Along with several other shows which arent even dumb funny there just stupid and assume the viewer is completly stupid.
in sort of related news... Boomerang starts showing Justice League next week, I think...
Boomerang... the Cartoon Network that still manages to be good.
Unlimited? I don't know about you canucks, but i've been watching JL for about a month on there.
JLU is name JL was given from it's third til it's final season. And the series has been over some time. Those are repeats you're watching from high above, my Lord.
