Hey there. My girlfriend and I are looking at some of those Kitbash sites that Superquad7 linked up. What really catches our attention is the Alternators models. How exactly do people like Lobo manage to convert a Mustang GT into a fricking H1 Hummer? Do you remove all the car panels, or just take out the robot pieces and crazy-glue em in? How the hell is this done?! It's flippin awesome and I wanna build too!

My character Bodyshop emerged from a bad paint removal attempt...

Not having done it before myself, I can give you an idea of how I think it would go...
1:You find a model car kit that is almost exactly the same size or slightly bigger than the original Transformer you are pulling the robot from.
2: You modify the model kit car by cutting it to match how the Transformer transforms.(the TF's pannel breaks)
3: Then you remove the original vehicle shell of the Transformer, and attach the new shell, making adjustments and modifications along the way.
    There! Re-shelling in 3 easy steps!:lol

I have a dream of one day re-shelling a white 80's Ferrari Testarrosa into an Alternator.

I have a charger that I'm doing right now to make it look like my police cruiser and that is basicly how I'm doing. Going really slow though I want to make sure I get it right. I will post some WIP pics.

Yep, I pretty much followed Lobo's guide, and I came up with this:

    Thats Decepticon Hammerlock.

He's a combination of: a 1/25 scaled Chrysler 300c model kit and Alt(s) Shockblast (front half), Smokescreen (back half), Battle Ravage (doors), Sideswipe (hands), Wheeljack (head and kneck joint) and Swindle (wheels), with a few Lego's here and there.

I started to do this and then scrapped it as the model was a tad to small. Reshelling is hard!

    Agree with both.

X3 was better than the first two put together. Singer's a hack.

Actually it isn't that hard. What you have to do is get the Alt. of choice to fit inside the shell of the model FIRST. Making sure the wheels, and dasboard line up from Alt. to model shell.

It also helps to pick an Alt. with a "simple" transformation process, at least for the first time.
This is one of the reasons Alt. Hammerlock, which BTW, was my third attempt at the reshell process, ended up being made up of so many different Alts.
I chose Shocky because of the simple arm transformation, but Shocky was too short for the overall length, thats why the back half is Smokescreen.
The two of them combined were the right length.

My first reshell attempt was with a 350Z, but I cut up the kit before I tried to attach it to the Alt...BIG MISTAKE, needless to say, it was never finished.

My second reshell attempt was with Alt. Swindle that became Alt. Wrecker: (sorry for the crappy pics...I need to take new ones)

It was pretty much another failure...it was supposed to be a '55 Chevy Stepside Tow Truck, but because I didn't really know what I was doing, and the fact of the way Swindles arms transform, I was lost as to what to do.

I then saw a pic of an old Jeep Pick-up and tried to copy that as close as I could, to try and make something presentable. What you see above is the finished product, and for a "failure" I think it came out pretty slick

Just take your time, follow Lobo's guide: fit the Alt inside the model shell first, then glue and cut. Before you'll know it, you'll have a custom reshell of your own.

BTW, thanks for all the kind words guys. :thumb

How can you have Dark Phoenix with no flames? Omega Red with no tentacles? An Irish Juggernaut? Sigh....I read way to many comics.

Question, are there certain models that reshell better than others, a certain brand perhaps?
