I read about this from E3, but the video of it really drives it home. Has she touched the game before? Ever played any rhythm music game? She fails out about halfway through, and would have a lot earlier if not for the drummer guy heroically keeping things together. I love when they fail and she's like "That was my fault." No kidding. I think she hit 4 or 5 notes the entire time. Painful to behold:

Also, how lame does this game look?

To be fair she did JUST play the same song on a real guitar. I'm guessing she actually did that fairly well or we'd have a longer video.

Yeah I would say if you are going to demo a game you should be good at it first.

Song's not exactly hard to play on a real guitar.

I bet it's harder than the game though.

No, really, it's not. The disconnect between the game and real instruments is pretty fucking massive. I'm not going to be an asshole and say that you can pick up a real guitar and play this shit well from the get go, but mid-tier stuff like Blitzkrieg Bop is a relative synch to play on guitar in real life. This is a Call on Guitar Hero III is fucking hard, but relatively easy to play on a guitar. Same with Sweet Child o' Mine... that intro isn't anywhere near that hard to actually play.

Sure you won't sound like the Ramones, the Foo Fighters and Slash, but the disconnect is there, and it's a big one.

You can argue that expert drums is much, much less disonnected, you're hitting note for note on a fairly reasonable approximation of the real instrument and the skills you pick up by playing can be transferred reasonably successfully to a real kit. There are some pretty good YouTube videos of people playing real drums to the note charts in Rock Band, and some of them started learning -because- of that game. Harmonix's dream has become real

Yeah some songs are easier on real guitar than Guitar Hero. I can play like most of(except for part of the solo) of Reptilia on real guitar but can't pass it on Expert. I just looked up the tab for Blitzkrieg Bop and it's pretty much easy chords, you don't even have to reposition your fingers just move your hand

So this game is supposed to be the next big music game? Their plan was the same gameplay with the same songs we've already played?

Don't mean to call you out man, but have you ever played that on guitar? It's a lot of quick fret switching, which is much harder than pressing five buttons at different times.

I'm gonna hafta agree with Onesock. I've played Sweet Child o' Mine on both the guitar and Guitar Hero, and the guitar is harder, IMO.

Also they're all (or mostly) covers.

It's sort of adorable. Konami is all like "We invented this genre, we need to get in on this". So they come up with a new game that uses the same interface as their games from 10 years ago, and without master tracks the songs are roughly competitive with Guitar Hero 1 from 3 years ago.

I maintain it's easier than the expert chart. More fun too.

Although it's possible I got the worlds shittiest tab ever. Do remember I never said it'd sound super awesome ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I think Twin Twist has a point. Playing songs on Guitar Hero does not feel natural to someone who actually plays guitar. Whereas drums have a better translation.

Not that I can play it that well either, but Sweet Child o' Mine easier for me on a real guitar.

Regardless of song difficulty she was doing a demo, she should have practiced and had been able to make the transition from real to game. If she couldn’t do it then they should have found some one who could. They have failed with this game and there demo.
