I love these ads. They come on Cartoon Network now when I'm feeding babygirl in the morning. The funniest bit is at the end, where they print "Actual transformation time may vary."

Why is this so funny? Because I'm led to assume that at some point, some concerned parent contacted Hasbro QA to ask them "Why doesn't my son's transformer transform as fast as it does in the commercials?"

(Okay, so probably not, but it's funny to think that. Cue "cool story bro" comments.)

That's been a staple disclaimer on the TV ads for... ages.

Just like Red Bull's "Red Bull does not actually give you wings" bit.

Just means that some dumbass can't attempt to sue them for false advertising or something stupid.

I love when they show them attaching the limbs, like there's no effort needed.I have to push like a son of a gun to get them to go on.

    They're not that hard.

But you do have to make sure that you're not holding any of the spring-loaded panels closed while you're doing it.

The sad thing is that the Powercore combiners probably could be transformed that fast. Although yes, I bet at least one parent has contacted hasbro about the transformation times *thinks about parents calling about ROTF Leader Prime*

Sucks...I tried finding the one I saw on youtube and I can only find the first (?) premise ad. The first ad doesn't have the warning, as far as I can see.

I love that these adds actually have to tell us the toys don't transform as fast as the commercials show. Makes you wonder about Hasbro's opinion of the intelligence of the American public....

Again, see Red Bull's adds. They wouldn't have to do it if there weren't those among the American public who were that stupid...

They do love to use that fast-motion to show transforming in the commercials, so it was inevitable. Imagine if that footage was like someone's video review:

"Ok, this flips down, and the legs are (struggle) supposed too... (struggle) POP! (foot flies off-camera)"

Heck, I remember being a little disappointed with G1 toys as a kid, because they didn't usually make those loud CLICK noises when a part was moved into place like they did in the commercials. :)

Can it be called an inevitability when it's a practice that's already been in place for years?

I vividly remember the G2 commercials, with the motormouthed-not-John-Moschitta-Jr. (or was it actually him?) spitting out "actual-change-time-may-vary" at the end of many of the TV spots.

"Combine to form a bigger badder bot" is my favorite line from the powercore commercial. And its a shame that the combaticons set or the interplay between the two and five pack "core" swapping isn't showcassed.

Anybody remember that Pepsi Points commercial with the British Harrier Jump Jet?
They "jokingly advertised" that you can get a Harrier by obtaining a crazy amount of Pepsi points. Well, some joker actually obtained the said amount and seriously tried to get that airplane. Really? How stupid are we people?
Now it's like every single car-commercial has the fine print,
"Driven on closed coarse by professional drivers" or something to that point when it is clearly obvious that it's a fake add.

Doubt it has much to do with their assessment of the intelligence of the public, so much as their assessment of the litigiousness of the American public. If they didn't have that disclaimer, you can be sure someone would time exactly how long it took to transform one of those figures and then file a false-advertising lawsuit if that time varied at all from what appeared in the commercial.
