I don't know how many wine connoisseurs we have here - beer seems to be the fucker-upper of choice round these parts - but I thought this story was amusing enough to share. I've tried lots of California wines, and I knew that it had taken a long time for them to be accepted internationally, but I didn't know that there was a hallmark event that sparked their ascendance.

There's also a decent summary here. (Yeah, it's Wikipedia, but this one checks out.)

I dig California wine. That, and Australian red wines.

I really have a limited expirience with wine. I've tried a few deseart wines which were ok(remeber one that went well with this cheesecake type thing) and I think I've only had one other 'normal' wine. Oh well, just gotta get more expirience:D

Wine gives me a headache, same with beer sometimes. I stick to hard alcohol.

I've only done a wine tasting in College but it does seem like good stuff. Once I'm 21 I'll proabably give some more wines a taste/drink.

    Cakebread Chardonnay. http://www.cakebread.com/

It's the best reasonably priced wine I've ever had.

(Reasonable means $40 in a liquor store and $80 in a fine restaraunt.)

California wines are awesome. Mainly because my family owned a winery in here in California, and I have relatives that still do. :D

One of the best proprietary reds I've ever had.

I do wonder about wine tasting in general sometimes. I mean, top tasters with "impeccable professional credentials" mistaking Californian for French, and vice-versa... whew.
