Beat ya to it. If this is a white one I'm shocked. Should have just left it white. http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/showthread.php?t=161001
I'm not a fan of modding rare toys, but thats actually a decent paint job, on the other hand if it was an authentic kirk then the value just took a nose dive and the value of the rest just went up.
Assuming it is real, and not a KO, couldn't the case be that someone painted it back in the 80's when it was new? Could just be some kid who got it as a freebie (these were promotional giveaway items, right?) and thought, "ew, plain white is so boring." I can hardly fault him for that. Lord knows kids have done plenty of things like that to toys, never thinking for a second that they might be worth something someday. At least this one survived, albeit painted... I bet most of these are just buried in a landfill somewhere. And hey, this might be a way for someone to get a white Kirk cheaper than they otherwise would... plus the cost of some gentle paint thinner, of course.
The color scheme is nice, but the actual application of it is horrible. I don't understand the appeal of paying out the ass for a rare headmaster, so I can't say I'm offended or anything.
I'm very sad to say that they did a better job than I would have done. That is not to say I think they did a good job, because I think it looks like ass. It's just that mine would look like, I don't know, super-ass.
Good way to get him for cheap if the paint thinner works right Atleast the seller is honest about it, with his added info at the bottom of the auction. It is a good color scheme for it though lol Next thing you know someone will start buying those rare MOSC G2 Combiners and open them and let them get all dusty. Oh wait....
It looks as if the paint could be easily removable, but it may permanently stain the plastic underneath.
It would be great to clear the paint, and then recast it into a million white Kirks. That seems to be the road we're headed down anyways. All in all though I really don't get the appeal of the monochrome HM's aside from scarcity.
if they were Ko'd, i'd get them.. just for extra heads for my Fortmax and scorponok. if this is real, the paint would be absorbed by the plastic and permanently stain the white plastic, even if you could remove it with thinner. i'd NEVER think of buying any of these under regular circumstances, but if they are to be KO'd and as a set of all 6, for under $40, yep, id' get em.
