Stumbled upon this little peach on the almighty YouTubes...

I'm sure we can make a thread out of this, right..?

What other oddball cartoons from the 70's/80's can you remember not many others would?

Hah! I got the whole Filmation Ghostbusters series on DVD!

It's kind of ironic, really; The Real Ghostbusters, which I bet many think is much better show than Filmation's Ghostbusters, still hasn't been released on DVD except for a couple of random episodes on individually available discs; while it's rival show, which enjoys nowhere near as big a popularity, is already available in it's entirety on DVD.

I remember the Filmation Ghostbusters, but as a kid I was confused as to why there were two different cartoons; one based on the movie and the other based on a bad acid trip.

Speaking of which, I really need to get some acid if I'm ever to watch that again.

I have no idea if the same company did Scooby Doo, but watching that little video made me think of nothing but an even weirder Scooby Doo show. O__o

Actually, the Filmation Ghost Busters cartoon was based on an older live action TV series.

The GB cartoon is from Filmation. Scooby-Doo is from Hanna-Barbera :)

I had no idea there was on old TV show. You learn something new everyday.

It was the same company that made the original He-man cartoon.

I remember that cartoon. It was on early Sunday mornings on the Canadian channel YTV. I don't think I ever got to see an entire episode though. Wouldn't mind having it on DVD.

Ah, that's right. I forgot about that. Thanks!

It's scary how much this makes me think of Scooby Doo, though. O__o

I have the live action TV series from the 70's on DVD, too.

It's actually not all that bad. It's supposed to be a comedy and as such, it works pretty well, and it's a shame that the same style of comedy didn't carry over to the cartoon; did they think kids wouldn't find puns and physical comedy funny? The only annoying thing is that you can see the low budget, they go to the exact same castle in every episode.

As for the cartoon though, I think it's definitely inferior to He-Man. Prime Evil is such a jerk, you'd never see Skeletor snickering on the background while one of his minions is doing a prank call...

For Transfans, it's probably worth noting that Peter Culled voiced a huge lot of the villains in the cartoon. I honestly couldn't believe it, but I guess altering one's voice is what voice actors do...he does his "Optimus Prime" voice in one episode, too.

When I was a kid and that show first came on I couldn’t understand how they could get away with ripping the movie off and when The Real Ghostbusters started I refused to watch what my brother and I started calling the Gobot Ghostbusters.

Filmation would've probably been better off stowing their show away for two years, since The Real Ghostbusters started sucking after the first two seasons.

That show was doomed when they made Slimer the star.

Yeah. I think that's when JMS left the production crew, too. Whether it started to suck because he left, or he left because it started to suck, I don't remember.

I think it was the latter actually, I recall reading his memoirs of it somewhere and he didn't think very highly of it.

I liked both, the villain in Filmation Ghostbusters was cool.

But of course, as those who know me will attest to, my heart belongs to the REAL Ghostbusters. I love the guys, Ecto-1, Janine, and even Slimer.

And yes, it started sucking as soon as JMS left, but the fact that they got him BACK to pen a few eps and rectify a few weird continuity issues was just beyond awesome.

And why this series is still not out on DVD is beyond me. :(
