I completely understand (and even agree with) most of the other criticisms these movies get, but out of all the things these movies get blasted for, the one thing I cannot wrap my head around is the "The robots all look alike to me" comments.

    Really?

You see no physical difference between Bumblebee and Starscream? Megatron and Rampage? Laserbeak and Ironhide? I mean, even if you don't know their names, which I totally get because the movies have never done a good job familiarizing us with them, you can at least pick them out visually.

Unless you're a moron and can't tell that a circle is significantly different from a triangle.

How do you get through life like that?

ALL THE ROBOTS LOOK ALIKE TO ME!! I CAN'T TELL WHO IS WHAT!!! HELP ME, BRAIN!!!

    [IMG] [IMG]
OMG TOO SIMILARR!!!!!!!! I AM INCAPABLE OF TELLING ONE VISUALLY DISTINCT IMAGE FROM ANOTHER, WHICH IS WHAT I AM GOING TO FAULT THE MOVIE FOR!!! GEAR FOR GEAR, THOSE IMAGES LOOK EXACTLY ALIKE!!!

TELLING THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TWO VASTLY DIFFERENT THINGS HAS ALWAYS BEEN MY SUPER SPECIAL HANDICAP! I AM AN APE IN HUMAN CLOTHING!!!

Maybe it's due to being so visually overloaded that the critics just become apathetic towards identifying the transformers, but hell, that's not the fault of the movie, that's your damn fault. Being too visually busy is a legitimate criticism, not that you couldn't tell one bot from another.

While I agree, you're kind of overreacting.

Whatever, let the flame war begin.

OP I like your enthusiasm! My gf said the same thing about the robots all looking a like. I think it depends on how engaged you are in the film and the characters.

I never got this argument either. My girlfriend who occasionally might pay attention to transformers can even tell the movie bots apart.

Because they are a foreign species, when first introduced, this is very possible.

Just like, for example, very commonly people say "all asians look alike". Well, its a false statement. The person making such a statement are either ignorant, naive, or simply have not been in contact with asians for much of their life.

Once a person gets accustomed to a certain thing, like transformers, they will be able to tell them apart. It takes time.

If the complaints apply to anyone, it's the nameless Decepticons. But I'll be honest, I totally didn't recognize Soundwave at first, when he held Bumblebee at gunpoint.

I never understood that claim either. My non-TF-fan friends can tell them appart and they even pickup on the names.

I don't see how anybody could argue that case. They only bots that looked alike were the twins, and that was supposed to be like that

I think one of the reasons this complaint got brought up is because, especially in the first two films, alot of the action was really close up, and all you see alot of the time is whirling shards of metal and its hard to make out whats happening between them, which leads to it being difficult to tell them apart during those action scenes.

Also, of course, theres alot of cloneage going on in on the decepticon side, which I'm sure is confusing for alot of people.

I feel like a more legitimate complaint is its hard to tell whats going on sometimes during the action scenes.

Well the complaint stems from this:
    Pics you posted:

Now How they appear in the movie:

Now name the Transformers in this scene.

It's kind of a trick question. There aren't any. What might have been Transformers behind all the explosions and beef was actually:

A toaster, a silverware drawer, and the cast of Family Ties.

Details get lost when Bay is behind the camera.

My mom said the same thing, especially for the first movie. I dunno why. I think she could tell them better apart in this movie though..cause she knew which ones were OP, SP, Megatron and Bumblebee lol

Personally I can tell what everything is right away.

    I LoL'd !

Well, there's a bit of truth to that...however, it still isn't detrimental to the movie designs themselves.

I'm sure Bay would have even managed to make G1 style look like a blurry mess in his shots.

    * Edit.... IF it were actual G1 style ... then the Decepticons would appear like blurry streaks of Purple and Teal in Bay shots.

I don't think they look alike. BUT the Decepticons paint tones are very similar, and I could see why it would led to the believe that they do "look alike."

Edit: And on the Autobot side, it isn't that you can't tell the bots apart, but beyond the 2007 team and Sideswipe, every other Autobots is pretty much a nameless Autobot.
