With the season that starts two weeks from now, I was checking the preseason scores.

The Panthers beat Carolina 4-1 and Erik Gudbranson who was drafted last June scored a goal and an assist. I know it doesn't count for being a preseason game.

Blackhawks start tonight, been waiting all summer for this. I hope they do as well as they did last year but who knows?
    Any predictions?

Habs start tonight against Boston for the pre-season games.

I have no confidence whatsoever in Carey Price and Alex Auld.

I understand how you feel about Auld. I would have no confidence in him either. I remember when he was a backup for Florida.

But with Price, I would give him another season or two to see if he can finally break out.

Everybody in Vancouver is saying that this is the best Canucks team we've ever had. A lot of experts even outside of Vancouver have predicted us to win the Western Conference. I try not to get my hopes up, especially being a Canucks fan who's been constantly disappointed since '94. The hype is so tempting to believe in though.

I think the Canucks, Sharks and Wings are the class of the West. LA will be the most improved and Chicago will have the biggest downfall.

In the East, I think the Caps, Flyers and Devils will be at the top. Tampa will be the most improved and Boston will have the biggest downfall. The Leafs will continue to suck.

My wish for the upcoming season: The Caps will stop choking after letting playoff series go 7 games.

Florida beat Boston 3-2 lastnight and Booth scored two goals.

Booth should score at least 30 goals this season if he stays healthy and not get another concussion.

I am just a passive supporter of New York Rangers, and if and when they won another Stanley Cup I'll be happy but until then I'm going to pretend I don't know the NHL season is about to start and watch my football.

Lastnight's preseason game between Florida and Carolina was canceled due to severe threats of Tropical Storm Nicole.

Brian Gionta is now the new captain of the Montreal Canadiens. A great choice to me from what we've seen last year, the best candidate from those that was considered. Markov and Gill are the assistant.

Panthers waived Andrew Peters, Micheal Grabner and Joe Callahan. I'm not surprised about Peters, DeBoer never cared about enforcers.

Jacob Markstrom was sent down to Rochester. That was to be expected.

I'm surprised they sent Grabner down. The kid has tons of speed and has shown signs of offensive potential when he was in Vancouver. It's not like the Panthers are bursting with offence, so I would have thought he'd a least be given a shot down there.

I hope he cleared waivers and sent down to Rochester.

Chicago defenseman Nick Boynton is suspened one game for a throat slashing gesture to Tampa Bay's Blair Jones. What is going on with the NHL these days?

I liked Boynton when he played for Florida and then DeBoer ran him off. I hoped Boynton waved the Stanley Cup to DeBoer's face.

Grabner was claimed off waivers from the Islanders. It means the Panthers traded Keith Ballard for nothing.

You also got Steve Bernier and a 1st Rounder in the deal. Bernier underachieved in Vancouver, but is a pretty big power forward that might have more success in the Eastern Conference where the defensive cores aren't as tough.

Hopefully the 1st Rounder turns out to be 30th overall after we win the Cup. :D

Don't count your chickens before they are hatched. Past two years Canuck fans have said the same thing, how much better they are than the Hawks.

Chicago trading Byfuglien to the Thrashers was the best move the Canucks made in the offseason.

Vancouver traded Darcy Hordichuk to Florida for Andrew Peters.

Story is that Vancouver will loan Peters to Rochester.

But I'm happy Hordichuk is back with the Panthers.
