Here are two "trashed" cabinets a family member gave me. Fir the top shelf, I removed some of the curved decor and painted it gray. For the second, I removed and discarded the bottom doors, as they were just plastic facsimile wood doors I didn't like. I also swapped out the knob handles. The top shelf is one of my main Masterpiece shelves now, and the bottom is where I have some boxed G1s. Pretty good for free + a little work
Picked up one of these at Target the Saturday after black Friday for $119.99. I should be able to fit some of my masterpiece collection in there. Hadley 56.2" Library Cabinet with Glass - Threshold
Everyone and their nice shelves and here I am just using these. The poor mans shelves. Should start taking ideas from you all.
I love that. LOVE it. The only thing I see that would concern me are the actual lights. Looks like they'd be really powerful and would get hot really fast.
Thank you. I was initially concerned about the lights too. The bulb base size is smaller than your normal bulb. My options weee limited at the Home Depot so I put in 40 watt bulbs designed for overhead track lighting. They have been working fine. I checked their intensity by holding the back of my hand at bot height and the temperature is fine. There is enough distance and the bulbs are weak enough where it’s not an issue.
@Destructimis Prime You have some great ideas here, I'm thinking something similar when I start working on my TF room. I'd like to run mine the length of one of my walls so I can fit all the 84-86 characters on one shelf. I like the top with the lights but I'd change mine to LED's and I want the top to support a sheet of Plexiglas or glass so I can encase the figures. I'll need to make sure I leave enough room like you have for an Omega Supreme or a combiner, I figure when I get to actually get into my design phase I'll reach out to TFW other members to help me get dimensions on the biggest figure in the line. Great job on your display!
Thank you My shelving width is five foot. The three uppers are 8 inches deep and two lowers are 15 1/2 inches deep. If you look at the shelf with Optimus, he stands center with five bots left and five bots right. There is just enough space where I feel they are not crowded. So if you wanted to double that to ten foot you’re only getting 22 bots in. I don’t know how large your MP collection is but you may want to make a two tiered shelf. I like the idea of enclosing them with a front. I thought about that idea but with the glass I had on hand, I chose to do open shelves. My bottom shelf that holds Omega is 30 inches from glass to glass. I believe he is the biggest MP there is. So that may be a good height for all the large combiners. I plan on getting Fanstoys Menasor to stand beside him. I do wish that I could have Omega in base mode on the bottom. I’d probably need a 30 inch shelf to do that though.
did a rather large moducase order. Should be in warehouse end of Feb. I should have 1-2 week of March
I don't have the budget or space for a fancy shelf, so all I have is a desktop shelf. And my phone always posts photos upside down for some reason.
Hopefully that you have enough space for all those Moducases. Even for one basic unit, its a good usage for a photobooth setup although pricy.
Replacing 8 detolfs- making 2 separate displays which I can later combine into a massive display 120in long, by 55in high, by 23.5 deep
Try cropping the pics to a smaller size (just focus on what we as collectors should look at) and rotate before posting. That should work out.
I would love to do 30" shelves but I'm think of doing floating shelves on my 10' x 8' wall and I don't really feel comfortable going over 24". My MP collection is currently 2 of every bot but with the new Prime I'm considering going back and getting the Animated versions to display in bot mode next to my current toy style MP's. I have some acrylic stands I was using at my old house in my detolf shelves that I would use for the Animated style and just display the two toy versions in front. I was hoping 10' would be enough to get the full 84-85 line on a single shelf but I have doubts now because the MP's are so large. Here is a shot of my old MP setup.
I had to do a google search for Moducase as I've never heard of them before. I think I'm in heaven They definitely have some great options even though it does look to be a little pricey. I'll be curious to hear how stable the cases are. The frames seem kind of thin and with glass on most of the sides it looks it could be a little precarious. Many of those cases look similar to the Besta units I have from IKEA. I like them well enough (other than the soft closing hinges breaking) but these cases might be a nice alternative if I ever get some real money. Very excited to see how yours turn out.
I also looked up Moducase - wow they are really nice! They look super classy, but at that price I suppose they'd damn well better. I like the different options for shelf placement inside them too. Miss seeing shots of your display in the MP appreciation thread TB77! Such a beautifully set up display. Right now is your collection all in storage, or do you have some kind of shelves for them yet?
