TFs that transform themselves? Like really simple ones, though it might not be that great for a collector if it's uber simplified. For the kids, though, it might be cool. Just not in the mainline.

Why stop at self-transforming? By the next TF movie, I demand toys that can serve us drinks, change childrens' diapers, dance, and eventually overthrow humans and become the new overlords of the Earth!

    I call dibs on Ironhide.

I like both Mech-alive and Automorph. They're fun, and relatively unintrusive.

Transformers that self-transform may seem like the next step, but it could really cripple the line. It's fun in sublines like activators or gravity bots, but I wouldn't want it on the main line.

I can't think of anything better than Mech-alive and Automorph. Best thing I can come up with at the moment is flip out weaponry like they had in G1 triggerbots and here and there over the years. Only give it a snazzy new name. I like the idea of doing a Bumblebee with an arm where the hand can flip around and convert into the blaster. That sorta thing.

Agreed. I think they're both excellent gimmicks as long as they don't use transparent gears for them. I'd love to know how many Deluxe Brawls now have a non functioning automorph because of this; one of the gears on mine broke the second time I transformed him.

I think the gimmick should be robots that transform into vehicles or accessories...

    ...and back again.

Spring loaded projectiles that turn into small minicon sized robots.

Edit: ....And that could also be the feature for the classics soundwave. Launching cassetes with the eject button. Just like the cartoon.

I know, that's the point of Transformers, its the best gimmick ever, transformation. Nothing can ever add to that. Added gimmicks only subtract from the transformation gimmick, they never enhance it.

I don't know why they insist on adding gimmicks.. I've never seen a person ever pick up a transforming toy and go "so what else does it do?"
