I've noticed many of the newer lines having the Transformers with open hands that still fit the 5mm pegs rather than 5mm closed fists. For example, Tracks, Grapple, Terridive, Tomahawk, WTC Bumblebee and Jazz have the open hands. To be honest I think it's a welcome change and been done well so far. Both hand types are still in use though, so close fists aren't going anywhere.

Just wanted to get a feel for what other people are thinking about it, or if it was only me that noticed them. So do you mind a bigger focus on open hands?

I've noticed this trend too, although namely because of HftD Seaspray and Generations Darkmount/Straxus.

Frankly, I like the new "open hand" design because that way the hands are FORCED to actually look like hands and not be blocks with ridges in them that are supposed to be fingers, or worse (I.E. Universe Tankor's "hands"). As long as the hands look like hands and can hold weapons, I'm happy with them.

I like it. Makes them look more like hands and not blocks with hand details.

The only problem I might have with open-molded hands is you can't make the figure "punch", but so far it's mainly been used for characters who don't need to. I'm fine with them as long as Hasbro uses sound judgement in character.

I love it. It actually helps both ways. Without a weapon the hand looks more natural, with a gun the hand looks like it's actually wrapped around a handle and trigger.

    I think it's quite neat.

I don't think Grapple can hold any weapons, though. Maybe if he didn't have those Wide looking thumbs.

Aesthetically it's neat but it's flawed. My Thunderwing has open hands and the thumb already has stress marks on his left hand, and of course there's all the people with thumbless Arcees out there. It looks great but functionally if they mold it too thin that's going to harm the toy more than help.

Well, as proved by this comic, there is a substitute for punching with open-handed figures:

    I prefer it.

Works better for most poses and doesn't seem as aggressive. Guys that go round with their fists clenched all the time can seem a bit tightly wound. Open lends itself to gestures and seems more expressive.

It depends on the sculpt. I first became aware of open-hands with TF1 Voyager Prime. That had such beautifully sculpted hands I really took notice.

Fists will probably never go away, but they just aren't as necessary anymore. They've come up with multiple different ways of holding and mounting weapons, and I'm also a fan of arm-converting weapons like you see in the movies and on figures like HFTD Bumblebee.

I prefer the closed fist design aesthetically, but the open hands can still hold weapons without trouble, so I don't mind them too much.

I noticed this new trend with WFC Deluxe Megatron. I liked the fact that the fingers were posed in various ways.

Open hands are cool & refreshing. I'd welcome more.

I can dig myself some open hands, as long as they can hold 5mm weapons. My pipe dream is to live in a time where every legends class figure has individual finger articulation.

I really like the open hands. They can hold weapons, and they're good for more relaxed poses. TFs shouldn't be walking around all the time with their fists clenched.

I'd love to get more hands like Darkmount that can hold a hell of a lot of things of all kinds of varying sizes.

    Like a chainsaw.

Also love what they're doing. Nice engineering and functionality combined.

I like them quite a bit, not that I dislike the older style. But especially for movieverse figures, the open hand look is much better.
