It's going to be Masterpiece Wheelie. And not the rhyming orange one, but the one from ROTF. Complete with leg-humping action!

    Maw-Hahaha!

Depends on how accurate they want to go, and like Ikk said, there's a draw to licencing the collectible as well. I think they could genericize some of these figures and stick with the toon accuracy model, but so far they seem sold on getting the license for the carbots. I am rather curious how they will handle the characters they fail to obtain a license for, though.

No doubts for characters like Trailbreaker, Sunstreaker and Hound. Takara ahs great relationships with those car companies. But the big ones are Ligier and Porsche. Both have issues, but after a decade or more we just don't know if they still stand by their word.

Is there anything from the Shattered Glass or G2 eras that would be considered a "big name"?

Back in 2010/2011 there was a quote from someone in Takara saying "A big character is on the way".
(can't find the exact quote right now)
That led to lots of speculation .... and it turned out to be MP10 Optimus.

Could it be that the new quote about a big character was referring to MPM-4 Optimus ?

This is not correct. Those trucks were only manufactured as cabs and rail beds and then whatever was on the back was custom built to spec for each customer. So a trucking company might order 50 flat beds and a city might order 50 fire trucks. They were all "Fuso Truck Model X" but had different parts on the back, depending on use.

So the only "licensed" part on the toy is the cab, since you can't see the back's underbelly anyway. It is still just as licensed as any other autobot car MP.

Oh, I have no problem with Inferno/Grapple. But some have complained about the super-toony back part of that mold, and you're right that the license is likely only for the front cab part. I think that's been discussed before, but I could be wrong.

Hello, I believe there is a misunderstanding. I did not mean to imply Inferno/Grapple is not licensed, just that there were no Fuso T951 based firetrucks or cranes made by Mitsubishi that resemble the Transformers.

    CIMG5093.jpg

For example, this is not a T951. It doesn't have the distinctive grill, which the ad copy for MP Inferno specifically calls out.

Inferno's original toy design by Shoji Kawamori was a sci-fi fire truck. It appears the finalized G1 toy simply used a T951 as a base to make a realistic-but-fictional vehicle.

There is a T951N box truck, but again no fire trucks or cranes.

I would recommend searching for "三菱ふそう T951" to see what comes up and see if it is actually the specified truck.

The point is that they licensed the cab of the truck to meet the look of a fuso because of the fact that they're designed to be modular. They didn't license specific setups of it, because they didn't need to.

That said, both the crane and fire engine styled Fusos come up in an image search, so they've been done.

I thought during one of the TF related podcasts, Rik Alvarez (who worked for Hasbro btw, and put out the some of earliest reference books on Transformers) said TT had already made both Hound and Arcee MP prototypes, and they were shown to the people at Hasbro? If that's true, we could expect either of them to be shown at any time right? Even if they just happen to be fall back characters while TT gets a license lined up for another character, I don't think many of us would be disappointed by a reveal of these two. Well, some people might haha.

I'd like Hound to include a spark plug figure since we still don't have one. I don't know who they could squeeze Chip or Carly in with. Maybe any future minibots?

I expect that they probably redo the prototypes over time. They wouldn't want to release a Hasui-Hound at this point since the style of the line has changed in the past 10 years. I expect that they have current sculpts ready to go for a few characters like Hound that would theoretically be easy to get the licensing ready for and then produce in a pinch, though.

Their human figures are pretty terrible, to be honest. I'm not a fan.

Although, myself, they would stay in the box even if they were any good.

There's certainly room for improvement, but no one else is really doing them and staying consistent either. I've looked at a few different options by several different companies and the scale is all over the place between them. If TT does them, at least they kind of stick to a scale when it comes to human characters. Raoul... not so much. I also know a lot of people don't really care about the human cast, and that's cool too. I'd like to see a few more included to kind of "flesh out" the shelf a little bit. YMMV.
