Ok I want to see if this idea will fly. I'm gonna post some lyrics I really like. In order for somebody else to post lyrics from one of their favorite songs, they need to actually read lyrics that somebody else has posted. Give your honest thoughts on the lyrics (not "those lyrics suck, ok here's mine", don't be a douchebag), at least a few coherent sentences about them, then post yours, including the artist's name and the name of the song. Post whatever lyrics you want, regardless of genre (please nothing racist or obscene, use common sense), just make it something you like, hopefully something that is meaningful to you.

Don't post if you're not going to take the time to read and review what somebody else has posted.

    Ok here we go:

    EDIT

    Modest Mouse - "Ohio"

Took a bus straight to Baltimore
On the way he took a nap
Dropped off a note that said "I'm giving this note back"
PS- There's a lot going on underneath
There's roots, there's pipes, and there's drainage leaks
    You're on, you're wrong, Ohio

    Truly sorry, I see clearly
Calmly crashing, I pace faster than anyone
Hinges rusting, they swing louder than anything
Truly lonely this place is flatter than it seems
I'm upset and I leave the doors wide open
Our hearts are used up, cracked and dry
Pulled the scabs off of regrets
We haven't learned to eat our conscience yet

    Truly sorry, I see clearly
Hardy hoping, I spent it all on game machines
Calmly crashing, I pace and I figure out again
One hand clapping, awake but napping
Rows of lights to illuminate lines
Why don't they turn them off and let us see night?
    Drove crazed, grooming my lies
You can't look in on one way eyes, Ohio

I understand that you like them a lot, but it's getting to be a bit much. Please stop, we know.

It's not about Animal Collective, it's about passion for good lyrics. I know I can get overly excited about things I like, but I don't feel this thread was derived from that. If I had posted lyrics from a different artist(which I came close to doing) would you have posted this?

No, I wouldn't have. As it stands, it just feels like another ad for this band that you've been talking about ad nauseum for the past few days.

Frankly, they sound like a Radiohead ripoff IMO.

EDIT: The lyrics have changed. Carry on, I got nuthin'.

    I didn't think so.

By ad nauseum you mean one thread about them, and one small mention in another thread? I don't think that warrants such condescension.

And yeah, wow, they sound absolutely nothing like Radiohead. Or any other band for that matter. Totally unnecessary comment. If you don't have any interest in them, you'll hear no persuasive arguements from me. But please don't throw out little negative comments like that for no reason other than to be a dick. I have done nothing to you, and don't feel I deserve this sort of negativity.

I think they sound like they are trying to be Radiohead, or something similar. You have mentioned them in more than one thread, regardless of your edits.

This is just my opinion, nothing more. I don't like them, we should leave it at that.

I like Radiohead, but I don't like Elvis.

    Blue Suede Shoes
    Elvis Presley

Well, it's one for the money,
    Two for the show,
    Three to get ready,
    Now go, cat, go.

But don't you step on my blue suede shoes.
You can do anything but lay off of my Blue suede shoes.

Well, you can knock me down,
    Step in my face,
    Slander my name
    All over the place.

Do anything that you want to do, but uh-uh,
Honey, lay off of my shoes
Don't you step on my Blue suede shoes.
You can do anything but lay off of my blue suede shoes.

    You can burn my house,
    Steal my car,
    Drink my liquor
    From an old fruitjar.

Do anything that you want to do, but uh-uh,
Honey, lay off of my shoes
Don't you step on my blue suede shoes.
You can do anything but lay off of my blue suede shoes.

Well it's a blue blue blue suede shoes
    Blue blue blue suede shoes
    Blue blue blue suede shoes
    Blue blue blue suede shoes
You can do anything but lay off of my blue suede shoes.

Yes, an opinion based off how many songs? For a person that has listened to their entire catalog, it's an extremely silly thing to say. As I obviously have a great more knowledge of the band than you, I feel I am in a pretty good position to say so. I would never dare to compare an entire band I know very little about to another band. A song or two, sure. And I certainly wouldn't go calling a band you like a rip-off of another band, at least not to your face or in a public forum. It just comes off as a petty insult. And for what? I don't always agree with everything you say, but I've found you to be a pretty level-headed person with good common sense. But then you attack my thread for virtually no reason other than I posted lyrics from a band that I mentioned in 2 threads.

It's the internet, I know. But of all people I figured you would have more self-restraint. It's just irritating.

Wait...what? You don't like Elvis but you post lyrics to Blue Suede Shoes? Did Radiohead do a cover?

I like Elvis, but I was practically raised on him. My dad is a huge Elvis fan. He used to run a little DJ business and would DJ and sing at weddings and events. He sometimes used to dress up as Elvis and sing. I just recently saw him dress up as Elmer Fudd and sing John Denver during a wake for a friend of his. Now that.....was interesting.

It’s quite a gamble to speak out of place
Those things could kill you but so could your face

What occupies me, pays a low rent
Because fondness makes the heart grow absent

These things I say, may seem kinda cruel
So here’s something from my heart to you
Looking at you, reminds me of looking at the sun
And how the blind are so damn lucky

Those holes on your face could be used better ways
Breathing’s a distraction when you chatter away

These things I say, may seem to be lies
    To seem risque, or sensationalized

And too many people can remember your name
Always walking you down memory lame

These things I say, may seem to offend
But not half as much, as I’d like to intend
Listening to you, reminds me of
    A motor’s endless drone
And how the deaf are so damn lucky

I’d be happy, if life came to a stall
Then I wouldn’t need my senses at all

These things I say, might seem out of line
But day to day, I’m right every time
Looking at you, reminds me of
    Looking at the sun
    Too long

    You’ll find
    That in no time
    You’ll be talking to yourself
    Along with everybody else
    Then you’ll despise
    The look in their eyes
It may be difficult to tell
    If you're looking at yourself
    And you look fine
    If you don’t mind
That gaping hole that’s on your face
A black hole that’s out of place
    And out of time
    In a tight bind
To find something smart to say
When a silence comes your way

I've got the demons with in
I've got to brush them all away
    I feel the demon's rage
I must clean them all away,
    yeah,
    yeah

    excite to scream them away
    cobwebs in the way
    that magic cleaner oh,
    shine his smile on me
    yeah,
    yeah

    I am the demon
    cleaner who saves the day
    I get the backwall
    and important they'll always stay
    yeah,
    yeah

if only one thing that you know
    imposters from the show
they'll try to trick you into
    normal treatment
oh don't you listen to them say
    shush them all away

O.k., I'm gonna try to censor this song since it can't be "obscene"

I hold this song close to my heart.

It's called 'Whips and Things' by David Allen Coe.

"we're gonna do this song for useless

ohhhh i was in to whips'n'things, she was into pain
i would beat her black and blue when she called me names
chained her to the basement wall where she went insane
and i was in to whips'n'things she was into pain

ohh, finger ******* sally worked at kelly's bar
she showed me her ******* in ronney murphy's car
she was the first lady to let me go that far
finger ***** sally down at kelly's bar

and ***** eatin pamela went to kelly's high
caught her in the bathroom, i thought she would die
    ***** susan's *****, ****** that sucker dry
***** eatin pamela went to kelly's high

****** silly shirley came out after dark
she would give us ******** in centinnial park
all the girls would snub her, said she was a narc
****** silly shirley from centinnial park

yess, good ole ***** marys' on the *** again
***** eatin pamelas' got ***** on her chin
****** silly shirley got caught after dark
finger ***** sally in centinnial park

noww ***** eatin' pamelas' in the county jail
****** silly shirley left town on a rail
they sent ****** mary to the pen for life
    aaaannnnndddd finger ***** sally
    she became my wife

i was into whips'n'things, she was into pain
and i would beat her black and blue when she called me names
chained her to the basement wall where she went insane
i was into whips'n'things she was into pain"

No, Coe wrote 'em and Silverstein convinced him to record it.

    Yes. THAT Shel Silverstein.
