Just a heads up.
well, fuck them.
What's the list of sellers who won't rape him?
I ordred this guy from them several weeks ago. Now I'm not sure if I should cancel my pre-order and go elsewhere..or get it with a cap.
What to do..what to do.
*crosses another potential supplier off the list*
I think that anybody who's going to be selling these things without the modifications is going to make a mint and those who have them at Botcon with the modifications will be sitting on them untill the price is lowered. Which is just sad.
This sucks. I pre-ordered from them because I thought they wouldn't do it.
We need a definitive list of sellers who will not be modifying it.
This makes me imagine some kind of weird mass-therapy session for MP-5s.
"They...they -capped- mine."
"I hear you, brother. Me...they just painted mine. I never felt the sting of the glue."
Odd that HLJ is saying it -now- though. I figured most of the retailers had decided on this already.
Grr.... just saw that on another site, too.
And promptly cancelled my pre-order. Oh well. I figure I'll just wait to see which site (if any) sells it unmodified.
This continues to make zero sense to me. Here's the first regulation quoted in BBTS's listing:
This does not specifically mention shipping into the U.S. from other countries. It DOES seem to cover any making, selling, or transporting of "toy"s and "look-alike"s.
So why the hell are TFC-06 Megatrons, NECA Robocop pistol prop replicas, or any of the bajillions of Master Replicas blasters/pistols kosher?! I just don't get it.
What gets me is that these retailers still think that a pre-mutilated toy is worth full price. If I ever do buy a "modified" one, there's no way in Hell I'd pay full whack; it's not worth it. It's not only opened, but defaced. As far as I'm concerned, "modified" = damaged.
Ah, so another has fallen to the orange side. *lesigh* (Prays for Ages Three and Up)
Well, TFC-06 is getting an orange cap, at least from BBTS (recently) and I believe the replicas don't fall under toys/devices as defined by that listing. I thought this was beaten to death by now, guess not.
Yup, that's what I pretty much feel as well. Hey, they figure if people are willing to pay it won't be a big deal. Then again, if/when they have stockpiles clearanced later on they may whistle a different tune.
I guess I should have clarified. I meant TFC-06s from the first release that BBTS has been selling in their vintage section -- they've not been modifying those, AFAIK. (Not to mention original G1 Megses.)
And how in the heck can prop replicas of guns not be covered under "toy, look-alike, or imitation firearm"?! I can run out in the street waving a Han Solo blaster around and get shot just as well as I could with a Megatron. Nevermind the fact that I constantly see cheap squirt guns that look like and are colored like revolvers -- with no orange whatsoever -- at Wal-Marts and Dollar stores.
Embiggened for truth!
This is why I'm probably gonna get my Megatron at BotCon.
Has anyone else received this email? In this thread or the Allspark one it doesn't sound like anyone else got the email. Also the English seemed very poor in that email, the English on the rest of HLJ site is pretty much flawless. I think people are jumping to conclusions here...
I emailed them. I will post their response when I get one.
why not just get from a canadian seller. as far as i know, all the shops up north are getting un-capped megs. got my megs from link2cooltoys back in the day, they never had issues importing cases and such when everyone else did.
As far as i know www.laftoys.com is not capping their megs.
er- i hope they still arent, as i placed my preorder already.
These companies have to spend money of their own to have it modified. So they're paying full wholesale price to get the toy, and then paying more to have it modified. No way they can sell it for less than retail.
Seems to me the only possible choices for the retailer are:
*Full retail price for a modified toy
*Don't carry the toy at all
*Break the law
For me, not having the toy at all is unnaceptable. The orange is unnaceptable as well. Seeing how I think the law is stupid, I will be seeking out a law-breaking Megatron.
Well, dammit I thought I was safe pre-ordering from them. I got the TFC reissue Megs from them without any of this BS. Why is MP Megs a different issue than G1 reissue Megs? I'll wait till we hear what response they give to GogDog before I cancel my preorder.
dammit, dammit, dammit.
BBTS won't import any Megatron reissue themselves unless modified, as well as MP-05 obviously, but once the deed's been done and the figure is already in the US, it's not a problem once they're purchased from collections or wherever and sold in the vintage section. Beats me on why that works - I can understand for G1 originals, since they were made for the US when first released - but they don't seem to mind.
