Could these be the G1 themed repainted toys we been seeing lately or could they actually look like those in the original 1980s cartoon?

I think it means the repainted movie toys.

Probably the first because it'll be alot easier for them to just re-paint the models rather than make new ones of the 80's versions of them.

I'm guessing its just recoloered/pianted textures. Skins in the PC world usually means a whole new model where skins in the console world usually refers to alternate textures.

They already confirmed the G1 characters were just new skins, probably based on the repaints we've seen lately.

I figure it all ties together.

Target's Robovision stuff lets you read codes to unlock G1 skins in the games. Toys of those recoloured bots are then sold as RoboVision and "As seen in the game".

Weaves together nicely as far as I can tell. :)

Go look at any of the UT and Quake skin sites, they'll be new polygon models. Now look at console games that use the term "skins" and they're, more often than not, just a recolored texture map. For the most part in the console designation they're refered to as models.

The PC world and console world are still far apart with its slang. Example: I hear kids all the time talking about Lag for console games when its actually just slowdown/bad frame rate.

I never thought of that, possible I guess.

Methos' link is also interesting. I can see it working for some of the characters, but as others have pointed out-What about Megs?

Heck the movie GAME is more true to the source material than the movie itself!

I'm loving what they're doing with the game. I still think the actual aesthetics of the designs could have been a million times better though.

As for the skins, I've never been big on covering up my Playstation. IT's a waste of cash.

Skins are the textures that cover the models. That's it, period. There's no other meaning. If it's a new model, then it's called a model.

So why is it almost every PC FPS referes to any new models as skins? Why is it that every site for add on models for PC FPS games refers to them as skins and usually has "skins" in the name? Any one who's played the the tournament style FPS games and wants to customize their character knows that new models are called skins in the PC world, even ones delivered via the developers. Latley skinning has taken its base definition, the developement of mods usually uses one person as a modeller and one person as a skinner, where character crators generally model and texture their own work and has always been lumped in as a skin.

Console games use the correct terminolgy as a model and skin, theres generall no outside source other than the developers releasing them so its falls into the same situation of mods, different modeller and different texture artist. This isn't always true as the Crackdown Four Player Pack that was released alongside the game is reffered to as a skin pack.
