it's been the longest 10 days of my life waiting to see this movie, and today I finally saw it. if you're a car nut, it's a must see, and it seemed like from the reaction of the crowd, EVERYBODY liked it. it's jaAm-packed with all sorts of car references and racing world voice actor cameos. if you go and see it you've gotta stay and watch the credits, and there's one last little bit at the very, very end of the credits as well. anyone else seen pixar's latest?
It was an awesome movie, saw it last weekend with my boyfriend. I am taking my parents/brother to see it before I leave
I definitely enjoyed it. Extremely beautiful animation work, especially the background scenery stuff. But not my favorite of the Pixars, which would be either Toy Story 2 or The Incredibles.
The female reporter car that pops up a couple times and Lightings angry forklift that Lightning call Chuck but replies “My names not Chuck!” are local morning radio show hosts Sara and No Name (get it you never find out what Chucks name actually is). The rest of the morning show gang also have little background parts.
Lightning's sponsors for "rust-eze" are played by the Tappet brothers from the radio show "car talk" ...I love that show!
I took my Mom to see the move and she listens to Car Talk every week. When there voices started coming out she got all gitty. Did you ever hear there Christmas Carol thing with the other NPR people? Ira Glass’s bit as Tinny Tim killed me.
The main thing keeping me away from the movie is the animation style. I really wish Pixar would go for something that isnt the "plastic" look. Also, I dont care for cars or racing, but Im still thinking of seeing the movie... at minimum I'm going to rent it on DVD for sure That said, I think Pixar's upcoming film, Ratatouille, looks far more superior than Cars ever did.
I didn't think it looked very "plastic" myself, the car paint was very well done and the backgrounds were almost photo-realistic.
I watched the HD versions of the trailers, and yeah the backgrounds are very well done, and the close-ups of the car looked great. But from the distance where you see the whole car, it just looked like plastic to me. Maybe I'll take another look at the trailer next time I have my projector set up, but even in 720p, anything but a close up of a car looked less like car paint, and more like toy plastic. :-/
Cars was well done and I feel I got my moneys worth but it’s not my favorite Pixar film by half. If the deal with Disney didn’t work out this would have been there last movie with them, so it’s not hard to imagine Pixar didn’t want to use up there A list material on what might be there last movie for Disney.
I took my boys and their friends on Saturday. What I could watch (when I wasn't looking for chocolate bars kids dropped on the floor or sweeping popcorns off their seats) was great. I honestly thought the background was real. And the end credit was indded excellent. Though Toy Story is still the best, IMO.
I just saw it. Other than a pain in the ass couple with 1 1/2 year olds who would NOT shut up durning the film (nor would the mom) it was excellent. My dad and I saw it. He loved it too. So many great jokes. Loved how all the insects were tiny little VW bugs. Priceless! Pixar is a massive hit machine. Toy Story 1 & 2, Monsters Inc, Bugs Life, Incredibles, and Cars. All are excellent movies. Huge thumbs up from me.
QFT. Pixars ability to make you care about characters is unreal, especially characters as absurd as talking cars. te bit with Ratzenberger @ the end was priceless "ok, we get it. they keep using the same vocice actore over and over." i'd put it not quite as good as Toy story 2 or the Incredibles, but on par with TS 1 and Monsters Inc
