When I was searching for GI JOE R.H.I.N.O. DTC, I found this. I was nearly floored by the asking price.

I have actually seen a sealed Flagg in person (knew the seller). The box is massive. It sold about two years ago on ebay for like 1200 or 1500 (non graded). It was actually 100% sealed with just a little area of the tape dried up. Some potential buyers were being real anile about whether or not it could be graded because of that, or if it would come loose during shipping to AFA, etc. The seller got to the point where he didn't know what to do and opened the end of the box to make sure everything was sealed and it was.

I couldn't believe it, I don't know how much he potentially lost doing that. He knew it was sealed, I knew it was sealed, the guy he got it from originally knew it was sealed. That's ebay for ya. I didn't see it opened, but my understanding is that there are smaller boxes within the large box that come sealed. I never found out if it got graded, but if it did I wonder if they took it on the basis of MIB, sealed inner contents, like when they grade a TF that is MIB but MOSC for the bubble/insert...hmmm...

Also, there is a guy local to me (no affiliation, and I don't know him personally) that is selling a Defiant Space Shuttle, non-graded, with the outer shipping sleeve like this Flagg had etc. Advertised as MIB, but may actually be MISB. He is asking $5000. Another huge toy. Also says that he wrote articles over the years for the GI Joe Collectors Club. Looks very nice, but I thought a Flagg was more valuable than a Defiant, this might be more like a $1000 toy. Funny how I have seen more Flaggs than Defiants though.

I can think of so many things I'd rather spend 18 grand (plus shipping) on than a toy I couldn't even play with.

Ridiculous. That box could have anything (or nothing) in it inside that case. Makes me sad.

I'm not entirely sure what AFA consider an 80 on a box that large, or how it gets a U (uncirculated) grade when each individual unit came in it's own shipping carton. That said it's a definite rarity, and maybe just maybe there's somebody out there who has 18K to spare on one.

...Of course if anyone wants to talk him down to 15K... there's a make offer button.

My guess would be that the Flagg was made in larger numbers than the Defiant, but maybe a good example of the Flagg tends to fetch more since its from the line's heyday.

If you have 18K to drop on this, the hookers may already work for you.
