Has anyone ever had "The Mom Block" happen to them? What I am referring to is when somebody you know or work with says "Hey I have totes full of toys that aren't doing anything, do you want them?" Of course we as collectors get all excited like waiting for Christmas morning. You try not to be too anxious but gently nudge the person until they go and get it from their parents house. Then comes the Mom Block. The Mom Block is when the Mom won't let their 30 something kid get rid of their old toys that they don't care about. This just happened to me AGAIN with a guy at work. He told me about them weeks ago and I was supposed to meet him a number of times to get them. Finally this morning he tells me the bad news. She had been saving them for sentimental reasons. It really was like waiting for Christmas... in Iran I am sure I am not the only one out here that has had this problem.
I have never heard of this problem before. Quite the opposite, in fact. All my Star Wars stuff got sold off when I was about 14, a week before my mum read a magazine article about how Star Wars toys had become quite valuable.
I had this happen with this guy and two old friends. One of the old friends had sold me his Transformers without his mom knowing. After that she would not let him sell me any of his GI Joes or other things. It really sucks since my parents had no problem getting rid of my stuff.
It used to happen all the time when I was a kid and me and my pals would swap stuff. However, I do have the Block to thank for me still having my Transformers comics as several times I'd swapped them all for something only for my mother to lay down the law and make me and the other person swap back.
Only "Mom Block" I've ever experienced is back last April my mom pretty much damaged my ex-fiance's opinion of me to the point she dumped me for her old abusive boyfreind... WTF mom...WTF
I don't try and convince my friends to sell me boxes of their old toys, so no, I guess I've never suffered this.
I thought this was gonna be a thread about almost getting some nookie from some guy/girl when the mom walks in and baller blocks you on it. THAT, I've experienced. This other thing? No dice. Tell your friends to grow up and stop letting Mom tell em what to do with their toys. Good grief.
