I always wondered was G1 Optimus Prime ever the chosen one? Or was the Matrix simply passed to him , just like when Prime passed it to Ultra Magnus in TF:TM. Cause I remember Ultra Magnus saying "But Prime I am jus a soldier i am not worthy" and Prime replied "Nor was I ".

    Thanks

I think it was a metaphor. You aren't handed greatness, it is something you must earn. Another interpretation is that the primes carry the matrix til it is finally given to the one who can defeat Unicron. Then again, it's a 20 something year old toy commercial cartoon, there is no logic in it.

I tend to use the Transformers: Exodus philosophy in which the Matrix of Leadership essentially chooses who the next Autobot is to carry it. You have to earn the right in a sense.

I also share that view. The Matrix is a part of Primus' own Spark, it'll decide who it wants to carry it and somehow find a way into their hands.

If you weren't somehow "chosen", then the Matrix won't work in you- like Magnus.

I think Optimus Prime was among the chosen, since he apparently had the power to manifest Stan Bush music too.

But... but... didn't Jean Claude Van Damme also have Stan Bush music in Bloodsport? Pretty sure SB wrote the Kumite(sp?) fight song?

But yeah, you hit it on the head.

So if Unicron ever gets close to earth, JCVD can use the matrix on him. Even while blinded!

The matrix has been treated a bunch of different ways, from being an inanimate but powerful object, to having the ability to alter not only the physical shape, but the mind of its bearer, but I think in general it can be said the matrix has a plan, and it will do the things it needs to put that plan into place.

You do realize that before the 86 movie the Matrix was never mentioned on the show? They kinda made it up as they went...

You see, "van Damme" is belgian for "Prime". Before Jean-Claude Van Damme was a Matrix bearer, he was known by the name Jean-Claude van Varenberg.

Funny to finally see someone mentioning JCVD, I always think of him when I hear Stan Bush singing :lol

which would mean that the Matrix chose/allowed The Decepticon Scourge.

For me, I always felt it was more of a genetic connection. That a very small amount of the tf population has a genetic connection with the matrix and can utilize some of its powers.I also feel The "chosen one" idea is a myth created by the Autobot elders designed to protect the matrix.

Yeah but Prime said in The Return Of Optimus Prime "I no longer posses the knowledge of the ancients". So correct me if i'm wrong when Prime gave orders or had plans in Season 1 and 2 he possed the knowledge of the ancients right?

    Presumably.

According to what we learned in 5 faces of darkness, Alpha Trion kept the matrix safe UNTIL the new leader appeared...a young robot named Orion Pax.

That would seem to suggest he gave Optimus the matrix when he upgraded him.

But it was never mentioned how long Prime received the Matrix after his upgrade?

No it wasnt, but the dialog suggest it was given to him at the time of the upgrade.

    Heres the dialog.

"The matrix was passed to Alpha Trion, the oldest of Autobots, who kept it safely hidden for many years.

UNTIL THE NEXT AUTOBOT LEADER APPEARED"

Alpha kept it hidden UNTIL the next leader appeared.

That seems to imply he only kept the matrix TILL he upgraded Orion..

I never liked the whole concept of having to be the bearer of the matrix in order to come up with a plan of attack. In The Return Of Optimus Prime, that exact quote that you mentioned made it seem like Optimus was too stupid to lead the Autobots without the matrix.

I agree. That's how I interpreted the explanation as well.

Exactly! Orion Pax did not bear it until he was Prime.

And he was made "Prime" when Alpha upgraded him 9 million [give or take] years ago.
