I'm a Metal Siren type of guy and Obari drew the hell out of that beast. I think if Bandai's 2SS had more range of motion for the ankle tilts and the chest locked together better it would be pretty close to perfect for me. It's interesting because I can clearly see a hinge for the ankle tilt in there, but there's no room to move them.
Oh I like that Metal Siren. The vf-3000 and vf-2ja aren't bad either. I hope the other vf-4 colors coming out makes one easier to get. Is this better posing than vanilla?
Why wait until tomorrow? Just took mine out and went from robot back to fighter, though minus the wings since I have the one piece in there.
That’s the one thing that bugs me about these and many modern toys. I don’t have to have perfect transformation every time but it’s annoying to not be able to play with your toys without digging out a bunch of parts.
I don't use the one piece wings, so they're not a problem. Usually I just have to pop a hand off and I'm done (unless I want the SAP parts on or off). The Messer VF-1, I change the cockpit glass sometimes. I don't use the smaller wings here either. Landing gear is a little annoying if I want to use it, but I understand if there's not enough room.
Definitely wish it had better ankle range. And less spring pins. Loved the way the Metal Siren was animated, especially when it converted to full assault mode. On paper it looked like something prior to Virtual On but onscreen it was epic. To quote Key and Peele, Nexx "TOOK OUT A ROBOT BOAT!". I don't use the one piece wings either(the butterfly hip joints are a way to keep the wings from hindering leg movement) and I keep the hands on. On my VF-1 I sometimes keep either the heat shield or canopy on in all modes and I use the full wings. I keep the hips extended for wide stances so the wings won't block the legs from moving back. Wouldn't be surprised if that's why the hips were made to extend outwards that way. Btw is there a reason why you're using the faux gun storage arm armor despite having the full gun out? Not being nitpicky, I know some fans have done that too.
Can you show me a picture of the full gun being out? I'm not familiar with the VF-2SS, so I probably missed it at some point. I was actually pleasantly surprised at the amount of leg articulation I could get out of the VF-2SS.
Ah stupid Macross question time. How is the DX YF-19 Excalibur? I got the DX VF-19 Advance a bit ago. Is it the same thing pretty much? I missed the preorder on it but it seems pretty gettable and I don’t think I can resist since it’s my favorite Valk design.
You see that arm armor on the left side with the back end of the gun sticking out? That part with the back of the gun sticking out is a faux part meant to replicate the gun being removed from storage in the arm armor. People have confused it for a smaller gun and/or gun barrel. The full gun is what you have in the right hand in your pics, opened up. Bandai probably made the faux Gun/armor part because an actual retractable gun may have been tiny or the left forearm armor may have been too big for it to be functional. I would've preferred an additional functional left forearm armor to have been included rather than just using the faux part to replicate stowage. Same mold save for the cockpit/canopy and bigger heels, has missles, Monster destroyer arm cannon, fold booster, redesigned cockpit/canopy and backseat for Yang to sit in, UN SPACY kite symbols instead of SMS, but doesn't have the big wing boosters that the VF-19Advanced had.
It has slight differences in the mold...feet, cockpit and major tampo differences. YF-19 comes with the heavy payload arsenal like we saw with the Arcadia release and it also has the Arm Cannon and Fold Booster. As for known issues, the packaging is tight around the head laser and people have been getting theirs with the laser broken off in package because of it. Some have also noted some loose fins and overly tight hip joints. I haven’t opened mine yet so I don’t know if I’ve fallen victim to any issues but the only one that really worries me is broken laser out the box but even that is easily fixed.
Manda has stock available and also other places I believe as well. Jungle is currently upgrading their ordering system since last week and it will be a while before everything is running up again.
Now that I look closely, I can see the resemblance (and the handle). But yeah, it does remind me of a small gun, and I think I'm ok with it. Thanks!

Thanks you saved me about 4000 yen.... Sounds like very Macross toy i’ve ever bought riddled with potential issues, lol. The fighter mode just looks too good without the SMS tampos. Bought.
Really? I was actually kind of disappointed for the opposite reason - mainly that it doesn't really peg together at all in fighter and gerwalk mode. The knee joints freak me out too. Poseability is great, but playability isn't.
