...[still undetermined...but I'm pretty damn sure it'll be an OAV]

Besides, after a tv show and two back to back movies this is probably the safest bet.

I hope it's something that can pull me back in. Haven't loved a Macross chapter since Plus :(

I gotta find someplace to see the Macross shows other than Sci-Fi network, sure they are floating around somewhere.

On a side note... I am still cheesed nothing came of the shadow chronicles.. at least nothing I ever found.

NO! Bad KnightConvoy! BAD! No treat for you.

Shadow Chronicles is NOT Macross by any stretch of the imagination. What you're thinking of is Robotech... which for the time was awesome, but looking back was a horrible frankenstein of a show. It took 3 totally different anime, mashed them together to fill the equivalent time for a standard US TV show season.

Macross is simply Super Dimensional Fortress Macross, Macross Plus, Macross 7, and Macross Frontier with a few canon games and manga side stories thrown into the mix.

Truth be told, aside from the awesome VF-0 fighters, the series is pretty forgettable. :lol

Too true, though that well has never seemed to dry up, I can still go back and watch Plus as well as DYRL almost infinitely and it still feels the way it did the first time.

I hope its something different rather than a third colonial fleet series.

I'd still be interested in a story on the Megaroad-1 fleet, and what happened to it.

Kawamori has said time and time again that ship has sailed.

It's time to let her go man. Let's live with the memories that we already have.

Whatever comes next, I hope the franchise gets back to bringing something relatively new to the table each time after Frontier's detour into self-referential nostalgia wank and commercial box checking. The last thing screen SF needs is another Star Wars or Gundam.

Yeah. As much as I hate being the grumpy fan who says the new stuff ain't as good as the old, for Macross and I, it's true. :(

Macross Frontier grabbed me at first because of the great animation and references to past shows and I loved that stuff, but I waded through characters I was utterly apathetic towards and a plot I was hoping would tread into epic payoff after a slow burn...and it just never did.

I still love Macross, I still love the universe, the history, and the mythology. But I hope they can create something that can define a generation of anime like SDF, DYRL, and M+ all did. But maybe that ship has sailed. I really hope not.

I couldn't agree more. Frontier was a nice trip to nostalgia, but I could have been much better somehow. The one thing I just hope that a new ova series could at least give a glimpse on what might have happened to the Megaroad-01 at least. That's all I ask, not a full blown series about Hikaru/Misa/Minmei, but just a bit of an explaination.

As long as they don't have some dude playing a guitar in the cockpit while in combat I'm down for whatever.

The greatest thing about the Macross franchise is that it had "realism" without being jaded, maturity without being cold or boring, and designs that were well thought out without being overcomplicated. It's extremely difficult to get the kind of balance of action, adventure, and heart that the high points of the franchise have managed to achieve, and I'd be lying if I said I had an idea of how they could approach the franchise to make it new and just as good all over again.

As interesting as that 30th anniversary logo looks, I am barely cautiously optimistic about whether or not it will be a success, simply another retread of the same themes and characters we've seen before, or a new work that is ultimately disappointing.
