He also goes great against legends Megatron for scale enthusiasts:

Looks badass! Which stand is that? The dragon mode always wants to be hunched forward on his front legs otherwise.

Wish his haunches weren't so big. It would make for a sleeker-looking beast mode.

Still loving this set despite some Serious flaws.

Began the long paint process. First a light silver spray, being careful not to cover every part so as to keep some of the color variation. That was the easy part. I've been ink washing for a couple hours now and I'm only 2/3 done! Then, if I'm still not happy I'll do some gunmetal dry brushing. Let me know what you guys think so far!

I agree, gunmetal will give it a nice finish. Looking good so far though!

    Very well done.

Would you mind listing exactly what you did?
Bare in mind, my customizing paint skills are maybe one click above novice.

Sure! It's easy. I just did a light silver spray to keep some of the base color, then I did a shitload of ink washing. On almost every surface. Ink wash was a mix of mostly black, with some brown and blue mixed in.

Can I skip the spray painting part and go right to the wash?

I suppose, but the silver spray makes the details pop more once you do the wash, plus it's easier to wash a painted area than a bare plastic area. The wash is more important though for sure. best way to bring out details.

Looks pretty impressive, although this kind of paintjob only works good on these ancient-styled robots.

I was wondering on how to give him that sort of burning-inside effect his wings had in the movie screenshots. Maybe paint the heat gradient first then drybrush with metallic paint so it only covers the higher parts of the texture?

Actually I did pretty much the same thing for the silver bits on my Voyager Prime and it looks pretty decent. Silver spray (more than dragonstorm) and ink wash above to bring out the molded details.
Wow thanks friend! It was a pretty rush job considering, but it's really a testament to how much detail there has been in the TLK line. They just don't paint their figures anymore. TBH the base paint job isn't bad on these two, but I just wanted mine to be more movie-accurate.

Oh, have any pictures of that? I always enjoy repaint customs of that mold.

Why are people cluttering review threads with customs now?
