I too would love to have a nice transforming Valkyrie/Veritech fighter KO, are there any? I know that Star Plan or something was similar enough to qualify, but were any worth getting?

In all the macross colors as well.

I don't wanna pay 100+ for a Ben Dixon repaint.

I never owned one, but from what I recall, the large size class of Star Plan were rather good quality. I mean, they're not exactly Macross-accurate, and they're probably not easy to find now...

There was also this thing at Sirtoys a little while back...
    Jetfire G1 Robotech - TF - SirToys.com

And before that, Happywell made a passable G1-Jetfire knock-off in metallic grey, and also some Macross7 Stealth Valkyrie KOs with comically-oversized new heads. Some of those are probably still floating around...

Ιts not only Z toystore. There are many other retailers doing it too. As far as I understand it, this is something akin to a: KO of an unlicensed product.

I can understand your willingness to not want to muddy the waters further since from what I gather most people cant even comprehend the basics (no insult intended): What is a KO, what is a 3rd party and what is a Bootleg and this discussion makes this more evident once again. They just lump them all together for....lets say reasons. So in their minds another category is one of the same.

1st Party : Hasbro Classics Ultra Magnus
2nd Party : Statue lines & licensed products or the Keychain Minibots
3rd Party : Fansproject City Commander
4th party : Pefect Effect PE-series accessories for said City Commander ?

Or is that being to pedantic ?

Or would 4th Party be a KO of a 3rd party item perhaps ?
Like that 3rd party Sunstreaker/ Omnigonix KO perhaps ?
Or what about the KO's of the City Commanders in colours that he original versions never had ?

I guess it's reasonable to say they are a KO (just not a KO of an official product) or another 3rd party product.

But if someone makes accessories for a 3rd party product (like an additional weapon or face plate) might that be 4th party ?

How is Show Z using the term anyway ?

Treads vs. wheels could go either way for me. The Rook mold was already used as Impactor, so there's at least some precedent. I think the gun that comes with him could easily be modified to be either Impactor's shoulder cannon or Tarn's dual fusion cannon. I'd just have to drill a hole for it. Fortunately, the seller is having another one sent to me. I don't think I'll have to send this one back since the shipping would be cost-prohibitive, so I think I can just hack up the leg so it can bend. Maybe I can do both!

There was a decent KO of the new VF-1S, but even the knockoff was expensive.

    You make no sense...

Official product, like your magnus example, is the same thing as key chains, statues, etc if all are licensed products.

The city commander trailer as well as the perfect effect pieces are both 3rd party, being designed to interact with an official product, yet completely original.

The clear city commander trailers are ko, they were never released by fansproject.

Hopefully you don't see 6 parties after this...

IMO the difference is in whether it's a completely original design (or not) including transformation, engineering, etc.

Third party will of course homage HasTak IDW, etc.... That's the point. However the designs are original. This includes third party add-ons such as PE and FPJ. They may be add-ons but they're still original in their own right.

KOs on the other hand copy all or much of their design from an existing piece of work, regardless of whether that is first or third party. Small improvements (or simplifications), size/color changes, etc. don't change that it's a KO. The KOs of the PE hands/feet, Jinbao Feral Rex, MFT upscaled legends, etc.

WJ toes the line sometimes. MPP10 is absolutely fantastic...but it's still a KO of MP10 even if it's improved. MPP36 on the other hand is an amalgamation of (or inspired by) other designs. One could argue it's closer to third party than KO, since there's some unique engineering... personally unless the design is completely original I still feel it's a KO of some calibre.

None of this "fourth party" crap... A KO is a KO, regardless of whether it's pulling from a first party or third party source.
