I have the mp36 ko, and it has the extra faces and chest.

Wasn't the thf the hybrid? Or was there another?

I just got in a couple of the Jia Qi toys, the SWAT truck and the Rookalike. The truck is great but managed to make the hands on the Strongarm/Ratchet mold even weirder. That's still ok. I had to shave down a bit around the backpack joint to get it to fold up correctly. He is now my stand-in for Prime Breakdown and will by hanging out with my Bloody Knockout, so the colors being a little off isn't a big deal. Looking closely at the head, he's just a pair of yellow eyes and a mouth away from being Breakdown as it is.

The Rookalike is pretty cool. I'm impressed with how they changed some things in the engineering for the non-combining robot. The only issue is he has two left thighs, so one leg is immobilized. Is this something that other people who have gotten this have seen? I'm going to talk to the seller about it, I just wanted to see if this is normal for the figure. If there's someone out there who got two right thighs, I'd be happy to do a trade of the hip and thigh portions. :)

I'm considering what to do with that one. I'm thinking of making him into Impactor but he's not too far off from being Tarn. Has anyone else used him for a specific character in their collection?

We are still calling WJ's Megs a hybrid?!?! This is their original design and they deserve the credit for it. Similar, but not the same, engineering on the upper torso doesn't make it a hybrid. He also isnt MPP 36. Refer to your figures how you see fit, I just don't get why its so hard to accept WJ put out an original design? Sorry guys, continue with regular scheduled convo.

IRRC they call it that way because he looks like Mp36 and Apollyon had a love afair and he is their child.

Any news if WJ is still planning to release a masked version of Rendsora?

It's the only reason why I haven't pulled the trigger on that figure.

By that logic, every 3rd party Megs would also be hybrids. Again, the fandom will call it what they will, but he is an original 3rd party release as far as I can see. The fact that I can even say Megs, is impressive in and of itself. ;)

    Fpjones... Waiting on that too!

Not so. Prior to Mp36 the other two had almost nothing in common, except certain elements that had to be there, and the representation of the character. This one borrows heavily from these two and its evedent in many of its elements.

I would not call it a KO myself as I find it to be quite ingenious in its workings and design.

I have to disagree with this. From observation, it seems pretty abundantly clear that the WJ Megatron has taken direct influence from two other 3P Megatrons. The argument that "every 3rd party megs would be a hybrid" doesn't hold up. Some structural and engineering aspects are distinct enough to identify as direct lifts from pre-existing molds. It seems pointless to try to deny that.

This is a KO toy forum... there's no shame here. We all unabashedly buy KO toys, stuff that is directly, 100% ripped off. We celebrate companies that take designs from elsewhere and tweak it, enlarge it, or improve the materials. Calling WJ's Megatron a "hybrid design" has no stigma attached to it here. Nobody needs to defend WJ's honour. It's simply a statement of fact.

I wish. It looks like WJ abandoned their oversized RID2015 line before they got to some of the most interesting molds. :banghead:

Engineering is partly that from MP-36 and partly from Apollyon, hence, the hybrid...

Try watching Ben's Review and you'll see the comparisons.

The legs are too similar to appolyon to make himtotally original, sure, he isn't a full KO, but he's 4th party IMO.

Speaking of megatron, what are the better voyager size versions? If there was a KO of titans return that would be great.

There's not such thing as 4th Party. :)  Just another 3rd Party. WJ's MPP10 is just what it is, an improvement on the designs of MP-10. Yes, it's not necessarily a full KO.

Unless something is almost entirely an original mold / design, it's probably safe to call it a KO. It is still copying another product's design (not to mention its IP). It's just that some KOs are better and more ambitious than others.

    Not that I mind.
