Let me guys ask you, is the japanese verison worth the extra money? I love to get insight, as to me slightly different painted figures doesn't seem worth it. However with the cancelltion of First Edition Prime and DOTM figures I'm starting to go down that road to Japanese verison.

It totally depends on the individual figure, and personal taste. Some figures vary greatly in paint scheme and even sometimes have added chrome, some are barely distinguishable. It's really a case by case basis.

Depends on which figure you're referring to. Sometimes the differences are minimal [Japanese Energon-Cybertron-Movie 1 and ROTF figures], sometimes the differences are an entirely new paintjob like the FE Prime stuff, Animated etc...

Movie figures generally have very few, if any differences. Que\Soundwave\Leadfoot have no differences [or no counterparts, heh]. Sidearm Sideswipe from Autobot Alliance [Japanese HFTD] is all silver instead of having parts of a red flame deco. Buster Optimus, Leader Starscream are very different decos.

So, which figures are you talking about?

This exactly but i would also add that sometime the Japanese figure is the only option as it more available in some cases than its US version.

Since Japan is rolling out their main TF: Prime line, would that mean that their FE editions will come to an end? At least the Takara version had a wide release in Japan unlike the Hasbro version in North America.

It's not just on a case by case basis, there is also an element of personal opinion in it. Decide for yourself, there is no right or wrong.

Except when it comes to Henkei Smokescreen over Classics.

personal taste as well as avalibility in the market. for me, it's the latter and money is not an issue. aesthectic differences (on Takaratomy stuff) are a big sell for me.

The Takara FE's have been over for a while now. You can still find the odd Cliffjumper and arcee but good luck finding a Takara prime or Vehicon.

And from a personal point of view I always prefer the Takara versions (with the exception of DOTM)

Has there been any actual pics of the AM Takara line at toyfairs, etc? I've seen some small shadowed concept drawings and mentions of stickers, but I'd like to see how they actually look. I want to know if the JP Ratchet will look better.

No, there are differences. Takara has use a very nice marbled plastic for all the fe toys I have (cj, bulkhead, vehicon). I suspect most or all takara have this.

It is not the most striking difference takara has eve done- but I can tell you the photos do not do it justice at all.

    Eh.

I have the japanese first edition Bulkhead, and I hate the colors. It's so damn dark that all the detail is lost, and it's just not accurate (to be fair though, neither are the correct shade of green, but Hasbro's looks to be much closer to me). I'd much rather have the Hasbro version.

To the best of my knowledge, all of the ones you listed except for Soundwave has only had the Takara version. Soundwave and HA Soundwave have both been seen in Hasbro and Takara packaging. There is no difference between the two paintwise so go with the cheapest option.

Agreed, I had to settle for the Takara version but I would have much preferred the western version. Much more accurate.
