I'm sure this isn't the first thread like this on this forum, but I was watching the Iron Giant again the other day and it rekindled my desire for a nice Iron Giant action figure. The only one I know of is the huge Trendmasters figure, which I never got because it went for $200 on Ebay a couple years back when i was hunting. I looked again recently and saw one going for $400. *sigh*

Aside from that holiest of holy grail figures, and the little figure that came with the VHS, were there any other notable Iron Giant toys? Are there any recent ones I'm unaware of, or ones that are on deck? I wonder if anyone even has the license for this movie. It seems like it would be a sure-fire seller for a smaller company like NECA or Toynami to produce. And the thought of Bandai doing one for the SOC line or another Japanese company like Medicom or Aoshima making one nearly makes me faint.

Any other Iron Giant fans out there?

    Ebay:
There were several Iron Giant figures put out by Trendmasters. The huge one and a few around 8" tall. I remember considering the one that had pieces you could remove and put on pieces that made his 'battle' mode.

Weird how somethings go for so much on ebay. They were big time shelfwarmers around this area. Huge amounts sat around to clearence and even then, there were some figures in TRU for a year or so.

Tell me about it, I remember seeing the huge figure sitting around at TRU for a long time, and even making it to their clearance section (a rarity at TRU). I wasn't familiar with the movie at that time, and had just started collecting toys so I didn't think anything of it. Now those toys nobody wanted cost a fortune. Such is life.

I may try to track down one of the smaller ones. They're still expensive, but at least 'affordable'.

Does anyone remember those Iron Giant rag dolls that were around for a while? Pretty adorable.

Another one of those things I should have just bought when I saw it. That movie just makes me feel warm inside. :)

I actually have one of the little ones hanging on my wall right now. I didn't even know it was something rare.

Did you at least make it to the end where the Giant goes berserk and turns into a wicked alien killing machine? It's hard not to love that scene. I'd love it if they did a prequel with more alien killing-machine action, even though that goes against the moral of the original movie.

One of my biggest toy-collecting regrets is passing up on the Ultimate Iron Giant figure. I was just too broke for what was, I think at the time, a $40 figure. They weren't big sellers and there was always at least one on the shelf every time I went to Toys R Us.

    "Where's the Giant, Mansley?"

Good movie. Wish I had that ultimate Giant, too... would be a great display piece.

I've got the huge one myself. So glad I got it when I did for relatively cheap. I actually saw the movie in theater as well. Own both versions of the DVD (had the VHS as well). Even have a theatrical poster in my room. The tagline is "It Came from Outer Space!" and has the Giant running from planes with Hogarth in his hands. And a plush toy guarding my car at all times. You could say I'm a fan. :)

Considering the cult status and popularity of this movie and the fact that there are toys being made for damn near everything, I'm amazed that there hasn't been anything at all since those old Trendmaster toys. Maybe NECA could do like they did with Nightmare Before Xmas and reissue the old toys. I think I'll email them and ask if they've ever considered picking up the license.

It's just so interesting how something can go from an unsellable shelfwarmer (apparently everywhere) to rare and expensive.

Whoa, I looked at an auction for the Ultimate Iron Giant, and then I started crying inside...Now all I have to do is turn 14, pilot a giant robot, masturbate over a red-head in a coma, and I'm officially Shinji!

    I am so fucked up...
