If Hasbro/The Hub could place TF Prime on iTunes internationally rather than me downloading them illegally i'd be happy to do so, but with no indication of TF Prime getting an international release in the near future I have little option.

The HUB for my cable system was included in the same tier as other Discovery Channels so that's not always the problem for people. We've discussed this in several TFPRIME threads that moving the show around and taking the breaks between new episodes haven't helped keep viewers interested in sticking around to view the episodes "live". Because the Sat. move happened, I usually have to DVR the newest TFPrime episode.

Also, I've mentioned b4 that the lack of original programming can hurt this channel as well... too many of their shows are series from the 70's and 80's and so on. Now some of the animated ones, like G1 Transformers may indeed be "new" to the younger TV viewer but still not offering several series to choose from is hurting their ratings as well.. :2c:

I hope they are able to keep things going, obviously I enjoy both Transformers series..but those 2 alone can't keep the channel afloat.

yeah but also look at the timing...our economy sucks space balls right now...Tons of places are laying off...it is not like this is the time of companies and folks having $$$ to burn...the hub probably thought they would get better ad revenue than the shows airing have generated....and it is all down to viewship and ad revenue now adays...if the shows cannot generate the amount of $$$ and viewership to carry their weight....that channel will be gone quickly.

They (ABC) just announced that soapnet channel is getting shut down and converted in to disney junior in January...same issues as the hub....low viewership and ad revenue.

iTunes internationally, I said. I believe it is available but in the US only, so for those of us elsewhere in the world, we can't purchase this/support the product.

No offense to Hasbro or Discovery, but a premium cartoon channel with the horrible lineup they have is not a project that should have been pursued. They essentially relied on a handful of big name shows to drive sales. TF's should have stayed on Cartoon Network. CN reaches MILLIONS of kids whereas the hub may hit 50K on a great day (I'm assuming there is more than one kid watching in each household). We KNOW that toy sales are required for shows like these, so as a company, which would you choose, 1 million viewers or 50K? It's a no brainer yet Hasbro went forward with the project. I strongly feel that "escalation of commitment" occurred and Hasbro just kept going further and further when it was destined to fail.
They needed a mainstream channel to launch the network first. It's hard to start a purely premium channel.

If Hub doesn't work. What will become of the shows on it? Will they just be cancelled or possibly be moved over to another channel like Cartoon Network?

The Hub is still very much a brand-new network. To expect even decent ratings at this point, or even through the end of 2011 is unrealistic. The Hub will catch on once there is more original programming and more people get used to it being around.

Before the Hub, that network was essentially a pure loser with programming that no one ever heard about or had any interest of viewing. They played odd shows, many of which were foreign (but english speaking). It is logistically impossible to go from a never heard-of network to a new one and expect instant ratings increases. It will take another year before that happens, and that is a best case scenario. It isn't Hasbro's fault, nor are the new shows bad. Quite the opposite. Word has to get out more to build an audience, and marketing has to do a lot better job than just slapping on HUB stickers on the packaging of Transformers and GI Joe toys. We can do our part as well since we are TF fans (and many are also GI Joe and MLP fans as well) and spread the word too. Every little bit helps. Hasbro has invested too much money to just pull out anyway. Yes the internet is more popular than TV, but it has not yet completely replaced it and it won't for some time. Tons of networks suck right now. THe HUB may actually have a chance at making it if they stick to it.

Hopefully it works out. "Dan Vs." is one of my favorite shows right now.

Say whatever you want... but I have to pay more for an expanded package to get the Hub. Believe it if you want or not.

And I aint paying it. If I was to pay more to get another channel, then it's a premium channel that will also air profanity, have blood and show boobies.

And to get HBO or Cinemax is cheaper than The Hub btw.

Blame me if it makes you sleep at night... but I blame whoever thought it was a good idea to broadcast on a channel that not everyone gets.

there isnt much point in marketing to children who's parents dont have any money anyway.

This is a repost from the other thread in the TF: Prime forum.

The difference was that Sci Fi and Cartoon Network was available in most basic cable packages. The Hub is available with premium packages. I have it because it came with the other Discovery Networks. I guess it cost a lot more to have a channel in a basic package now compared to the early-mid 90s.
