I was just sitting here with the gal pal watching MythBusters, and the episode was mostly focused on hover boards.. My question is this do you think the hover board will one day become a reality?

and I don't mean like a hover craft, I mean like what we saw in back to the future 2.

Quite plausible, however the technologie is quite simple, north and south pole sides on opposites creat a force upward, repeling, so if they made a raod for magnet riders, you could probably make a current allowing the effect to blance and even turn.....but I dought I even have the comprehension to come up with a solid idea......

they make trains using a similar method but i think for a hover board something more practical and less limiting would be required.

That or some sort of repulshion, I was kind thinking somthing along the lines of one real large fan with magnets, obviously a plastic fan, making it easier to bear the weight, and manuver

You could always just spraypaint the bottom of a regular skateboard with cavorite.

I think in some program in the 80's they talked about the hoverboard and how the hoverboard was portrayed in the movie wasn't possible. That's not to say they can't find other ways to make a hoverboard, but just not with the quasi-science that BTTF used with respect to the earth's magnetic field and what not.

They're not due until 2015. Although I remember as a kid, the rumor that went around saying they really did have hoverboards, but parents groups banned them because they were too dangerous. And this rumor spread all over even without an internet back then.
    (It wasn't true, btw)

when BTF2 came out, I remember a rumor circulated in school about a parental board blocking the release of the hover board by mattel becasue of the potential for misuse, accidents and possible fatalities. We were all pissed. So after getting abit older and a bit less guilable I knew most of the sceens were faked.
This last year my wife bought me the BTF box set, on the second disc and second sub menu for the btf2 movie it shows outtakes from the hoverboard sceens. There is a particuarly interesting back lot shot of a truck driving through a dusty field with a rope ont he back of it and a dude riding a hover board. It doesnt show any crane or harness gear holding the guy up and the clip is fairly short....anyone else seen this? More of the same movie magic or has the wool been pulled over our eyes and this actually is real and deamed unsafe and kept from us under the guise of movie magic?

    hrmmm

Edit: Damn, Rodimus beat me to the rumor thing

    I heard that same rumor.

When I was about 16, my dumb ass mailed away for hoverboard plans. I think they were advertised for $10 in Popular Science, or something. I was convinced it was possible, and I wouldn't shut up about it.

Anyway, I had all these plans to make and sell them, because the ad said it was simple. I finally got the plans, and it really WAS simple. They showed a board, and then something along the lines of "insert as of yet unknown technology here", with an arrow pointing to the bottom of the board.

I think that was my first and best lesson into not getting suckered.

Only 8 more years until they are available. I'm gonna go camp out in front of TRU right now so I can be first in line when they are released.

That would make it extremely strong and derive power from heat in total violation of the laws of thermodynamics.
