Heh, Tom Waits and The Hobbit are among my top 5 favorite things the Universe ever created, so needless to say my ears are perked up. ^_^

So, Tom Bombadil or Smaug? Either one would be the bees knees!

I feel like if the Hobbit was going to be made, it should have been done a while ago.

I like the fact that the writers are taking their time with this, plus pre-production on this kind of film takes a long time. They have to make costumes, build sets, paint sets, modeling, scouting, the amount of time spent on L.O.T.R. was phenomenal.

I love the book. Can't wait to see a movie version of it. Well, I've seen bits and pieces of an animated film of The Hobbit, but I would sure like to see a live-action version.

That reminds me, I've still yet to watch the Lord of the Rings movies, now that I've read the books.

Really? Wow. You should start with the extended versions, the theatrical version is pointless IMO.

Alright-y, thanks! I'll see about picking up the extended versions.

It's pretty faithful to the novels, with a few exceptions. I won't ruin anything, but there are some WTF? moments. However, after listening to the directors commentary, which includes Peter Jackson and his wife and friend (they all wrote the screenplay together) I guess I can see why they changed what they did. I guess.

Oh, the same writers are producing, and I am sure that del Toro is probably helping with the screenplay, since he is the director. He wrote and directed Pans Labyrinth, so The Hobbit should be pretty good!

are you thinking of Beorn? Tom Bombadil isn't in The Hobbit , The book anyway it is possible they may add him in as filler between the 2 parts of the hobbit if they are sticking with making it a 2 parter

Is Bombadil supposed to be in one of the films? I don't know if Waits is 'jolly' enough to be Bombadil, but it is a role with singing so that would be cool.

Beorn (the shapeshifter/bear guy) is supposed to be in the films, so perhaps that might be a role for him. I think the voice of Smaug would be the best fit for Mr. Waits though. God that would be cool.

I've gotta say this is my #1 most anticipated film. I can't think of anything that would knock it from the top spot, either.

if they go by the book ( Pun intended) Tom Bombadil won't be in , if we was going to be in a live action movie it would have been LOTR: The Fellowship of the Ring, but as I said there is a slight chance they may choose to use him as filler somewhere, but it is quite unlikely, as for who could play Bombadil well i think Robin Williams would be perfect for the role

I totally forgot that Tom Bombadil wasn't in The Hobbit. Oops. Still, if there are 2 movies made, I would expect to see Waits as him. Bombadil is a very strange dude, not unlike Waits. Plus Waits has children, so maybe he could be somewhat jolly...who knows? He would be great as Smaug too. I didn't think of Beorn, but that guy didn't sing, did he? I'd be happy to see him voice all 3 trolls too. Whatever he does...it will be great! I just hope this is true!

LOL, I just watched C&C again a few days ago. That's my favorite vignette out of all of them. So much delicious discomfort.

And yeah, I could hear Waits voicing the trolls too. It'd be funny to hear him adopt the neccessary accent for them.

The Hobbit also features the fastest instance of going from about to kick each other's ass rto being allies you will ever likely see :lol  in the....better not say more as not to spoil anything for those who haven't read the book or seen the animated movie ( The book is loads better)

Can you imagine Tom arguing with himself in 3 different voices? I can! That would be hilarious!

To bring everyone up to speed on The Hobbit:

*WILL be directed by Peter Jackson after all.

*May not be filmed in New Zealand.

    *Has a rapidly growing cast:
Meet Your Hobbit Cast | Hobbit Movie News and Rumors | TheOneRing.net?

I'm thrilled with the choice for Bilbo. He made a perfect Arthur Dent and as Bilbo is the same sort of complacent and bumbling traveler he should fill those furry feet quite nicely.

    ::EDIT::
WILL be filmed in New Zealand.
