concerning the character and actions of mortilus the death bringer

is it just me or does the guy appear to essentially be darkseid in a sense?

I am of course reffering to this guy character comparison wise

Ummm, no really. Darksied and Thanos were universe killers. Anything IDW does will kind of be a sham of that, short of Unicron, I think.

I think it's just the generic "warmongering evil god" trope.
For another example, Ares from Wonder Woman.

Yeah, Mortilus thus far is a one-dimensional god of death. Which means it'll be easy to draw comparisons to other death god characters, even though I'm sure the creative team wasn't going, "okay so this guy's our version of Darkseid" or whatever.

Although in fairness, a whole annual was devoted to doing an old-Marvel-house-style riff on the Guiding Hand, which'll make comparisons to Kirby death gods even easier.

Thanos and Darkseid weren't death gods. Thanos specifically was in love with Death and willing to kill everyone for her.

Thanos also wasn't Kirby, he was Starlin knocking off Kirby. I probably wouldn't bring him in though, because Starlin spent years trying to humanize Thanos as much as possible, and drive home that he's not a god, he's a guy who keeps getting too much power for a guy to have, and intentionally sabotaging himself out of it because he knows he's not good enough for it.

And yeah, Darkseid was more the god of general evil, but come on... he's the dark-shrouded, stone-faced ruler of an obvious hell allegory, lets not split hairs.

and mortilus strikes me as being a reasonabke counterpart to darkseid given the whole intergalactic universal domination alien warlord fuhrer angle lol

He is! He's also a counterpart to like a dozen other things. He's not a fleshed-out character, he's a couple of one-dimensional traits. If it's generally a death/war/evil/bad guy god, Mortilus can probably be spun as a counterpart to it.

mortilus was by far the best god in the guiding hand. He single-handedly trapped solomus in a crystal prison- the matrix- Stripped epistemus and adaptus to a brain module and tf cog, which eventually killed them, and brought primus to the brink of death. I dont know much about darkseid or thanos but i dont think they would win in a fight against the actual god of death
