Legends (Pretender) Bumblebee doesn't get enough love as a figure. Its a fantastic version of Bumblebee and is more show accurate. I recently was able to get him (Partially) sealed for a good price. So Naturally I opened him up! He did come with a paint chip right out of the package on his bumper, and that's a bummer, but what I noticed (first time for me) is that the sticker sheet he comes with is the same one from the regular pretender release. Are all of the G1 "K-mart" Legends this way?

Hey all, I wrote a little piece on the European G1 Ceji-manufactured Bombshell variant. What started out as an updated gallery because I now have the packaging turned into another case of "erm...is this a discovery?". Not a big one, though :)

Apologies for the cross-posted pics, I didn't take that many and have run out of new ones to post with the article!

Yes, in my research on the Pretender Classic/K-mart Legend BB, I read that the Legend version came with the same sticker sheet as the Pretender, even though it doesn’t include the shell.

Right. Another strange thing, the instructions say to place the visor sticker on Bee's back.

All this Pretender love lately ... I'm itching to start that part of my collection. I've never owned a Pretender, but it's been on my "to do list eventually."

Throw it out there: what's a good "starter" Pretender?

I'd say any of the first ones as they're cheaper but my ultimate desire is Thunderwing due to his importance in the comics!

    Bumblebee!

See my reason above. Great inner robot. Not too difficult to find in decent shape either. It would be a good place to start a collection of Pretenders IMHO

Weirdly enough, the best Pretenders are the small ones. Not cheap, unfortunately, but I'd go for a small Decepticon Pretender like Bludgeon or Stranglehold, or perhaps Autobot Pincher, for the best combination of the Pretender gimmick with a good looking inner alt mode / bot mode.

Personally, I do love all the large Pretenders, but they can be rather underwhelming. My first Pretenders were Landmine and Bombburst, but to be honest, the inner robots and their alt modes are rubbish.

I'd say Monstructor and Dinoking are definitely 'advanced' figures: you have to know you enjoy the Pretender gimmick before investing in these!

These guys were my absolute favourite of the 'Special Teams' when I was a kid. Grove was the only '86 combiner limb I actually owned as a kid. A big chunky motorbike? Of course I'm going to love it. Hotspot's design in robot mode just looked near perfect to me (I'm a sucker for a faceplate and symmetrical guns). And, perhaps controversially, I thought Streetwise was the coolest looking of the scramble city cars. What a team!

I'm sure the people around here are sick of me singing the praises of Mega Pretenders, but seriously...Mega Pretenders :D
They are a little pricey, but they are what the Pretender gimmick should have been from the beginning.
Vroom is love, Vroom is life ;)

Yup, my first Pretender was Landmine...and he nearly made me swear off Pretenders entirely. I took a chance on Waverider and he was a little better, but after that I didn't buy any more regular large Pretenders. As a child I also got the vehicles, Chainclaw, 3 Pretender Classics, and the monsters, and that's it.
Unfortunately, by sheer chance I missed out on the better Pretenders, like Mega, Ultra, small, and even some of the Decepticon large ones.

I cannot praise Crossblades enough. One of my all time favorite G1 toys. Skyhammer too, and the pretender beasts were solid. Am I the only one who likes some of the G1 stuff simply because it IS G1? Idk, the vintage factor always overrides any other concerns I have with a G1 figure. When it comes to modern stuff, however, I am quite scrupulous.

I love Afterburner's transformation. For me it's one of the best limb bot transformations.

I have a real soft spot for Cloudburst. Of all the first year pretenders, he has the most interesting alt mode... plus you can deploy his wings in bot mode.

The legs are supposed to pull out further, aren't they? I have mine packed away, so can't double check right now.

You know I thought so too. I don't want to pull too hard on them, they won't come out any farther.

Thanks for all the Pretender suggestions everyone! Definitely going to look into getting one to get that part of my G1 collection started.
