Of all the people in the world to discuss this with, it actually came up in conversation with my mother. I was explaining something to her about Mega (Overlord's Godmaster), and I kept referring to Mega as "her" while speaking. "She's small enough to just wrap in bubble-wrap and put in an enevelope to send.", I said. My mother responded with "She? I thought Arcee was the only female Transformer from back then."

Keep in mind that mom obviously forgot Chromia, Firestar, and Elita-One. However, the previously mentioned four female Autobots were only original-series cartoon characters; never toys.

So in all reality is Mega not the first female transformer? She might not be a robot, she might not even be Cybertronian, but she is a female and she does transform. Can anyone else confirm her being the "First Lady of Transformers" sold as a toy?

Wasn't Mega a human (or humanoid alien) in a powered suit?

Minerva was also in the same line.

    ...yeah.

Mega and Minerva were both human. The other was a Godmaster and the other was a Headmaster junior. However, I would say that Giga is the dominant Godmaster on Overlord (who's definitely not a fembot), I'd say Minerva is the first.

As actual fembots...I don't think those were seen until Beast Wars.

Minerva was the first fully-fledged female Transformers toy released in Japan.

On the US side of things, BotCon 1995 Nightracer was the first fembot toy, whereas BW Blackarachnia was the first fembot to be released at US mass retail.

The first mass retail TF toy to be fully DESIGNED to look like a "female" was Transmetal 2 Blackarachnia.

Are you sure it wasn't TM Airrazor? There are definitely some feminine features on that toy.

TM Airazor was designed to go either way because the character in Japan is male, similar to the recent Nitro Convoy/Override swap. I'd have to agree with the BlackArachnia assessment.

TM Airazor has a feminine build, and boobs. I don't see how that could go "either way".

But at the same time very broad shoulders, and the "boobs" could also be interpreted as pecs. Not exactly the most feminine proportions on the face, either.

That doesn't make any sense. Two male bots can't produce another bot. Seriously, that screws up Tigerhawk being the son. Ya can't have two daddies, ya know?

Didn't Blackarachnia toy get into trouble for having feminine attributes that were quite...uh...large-ish?

To be fair, I think BM Blackarachnia is one of the only female TF toys that doesn't have shoulders on the broad side for a "standard" female form (a little too narrow, actually)

I'll just say TM Airazor looks more feminine than NON-TM Airazor. :)

The Airrazor thing in Japan was pathetic. I still have a magazine in which they've addressed the issue to young readers by basically saying 'there's nothing wrong in being homosexual' :lol  I almost died when I read that...

And Mega was the first Decepticon female character, but I think Minerva was released first.

Wasn't there a girl train from "return of convoy"?

Minerva turned into a real transformer in the last episode of masterforce and later showed up in victory.

After looking at the TM airrazor, I really don't see it as having an obviously female look. The chest may be rounded, but it doesn't exactly look like boobs. And the legs are bird like not female. I could see it as going either way.

Yeah, she was in Operation Combination. The unfortunately named Windy of the Sixtrain team.

On the Airrazor thing - I always took Tigerhawk as a fusion of the pair, not a child of them. And I also thought the Transmetal looked pretty female. The lower body looks quite feminine, and the chest, while a bit muscular, does look a little female.
