Yeah, no spoilers for me. I skimmed the beginnings and endings of some of those, just enough to get the general 'ZOMG best comic movie evar' sentiment. Funny in a way. It was AICN's complete evisceration of Batman & Robin that kinda put it on the map. How far we've come.

At least until Nolan calls it quits after three, they get some hack for part four, and AICN cuts it to pieces..then we'll just be right back where we started. :redface2:

Some of the reviews I have been reading say this is one of the best movies ever. Saying its Godfather 2 caliber. And some are calling for an oscar for Ledger. Now that may be skewed by his tradgic death.

All I can say is that I cant wait to see it.

Wow I hope that there right and it's that good (not that it will be bad or anything) but that would give movies based on comics a lot more credabilty.

It's pretty ridiculous how excited I am for this. I've never been the biggest fan of movies spawned from comics or toys, but Nolan's new vision of Batman is such a different calibre that it doesn't even feel 'superhero' at all. This is the kind of "real" I've always wanted, but never knew I did until I watched Batman Begins. Even older people I know who wouldn't normally watch "a silly Batman movie" thought that Batman Begins was nothing short of amazing. And the fact that everyone across the board is now saying that Ledger's Joker is one of the single best movie villains EVER in the history of film just adds to the anticipation.

I think Nolan's Batman movies are completely in a league of their own, and can't hope enough that he makes a third installment. It's rare that we'll ever see this kind of talent come together for ANY movie, let alone one based on a comic. That in itself is what sets this reborn franchise apart from all the rest - *starting* with established and/or A-List actors as opposed to entirely new faces or barely known actors that have yet to come into their own. Combined with Nolan's dedication to the established fiction and his eye for direction, it's truly a perfect storm... and will likely motivate even more established actors & directors to consider projects of this kind. He's proven ten fold that you can make stuff like Batman into a good FILM that stands on its own, not just a decent comic-to-movie adaptation that only geeks will enjoy.

Though I have to give credit to Iron Man since Favereu came surprisingly close to pulling this off as well, albeit much more light hearted. Beyond that, X-Men is the only other franchise that I personally think managed to pull it off in an above average way. It was still "comicy" but mature enough not to feel overly kiddy or just ridiculous and/or boring ala the Hulk's, Spider-Man, Transformers, Punisher, Fantastic Four and the plethora of other CGI wonderfests.

After these reviews, I guess I'm going to have to go see it opening night.

What's unfortunate is that Nolan right now doesn't seem to want to do another one, though he'll probably end up doing the third one anyway.

I think that what they mean by GF2 caliber is not that it is one of the greatest films of all time (GF2 frequently ranks in the top 5), but that it is one of those sequels like GF2, Empire and Kahn that is an improvement on the original.

Go to the Movie blog, they always do spoiler free reviews, and I sympathize a lot with those guys, they call it one brilliant movie and call for an oscar nomination for ledger.
