What's the verdict? Who's to say.

But a mysterious guy named Diabetes dropped by Murphy's board to tell us the audition had happened. Normally, we don't give credulance to Hearsay...

But then Don Confirmed it himself.

    Speculate away!

Yay! Quite frankly, I don't think that we'll find out until the July 4 teaser trailer. I think then it will be revealed if Cullen is indeed reprising his role as Optimus Prime.

Probably something along the lines of "Next summer, prepare yourselves to transform and roll out!"

You know every single person in that room who has ever watched the original Transformers (G1) got goosebumps when he auditioned.

Good news, but I doubt he'll land the role. The way the casting for the film has gone, Cullen is too much of a big star to cast - they'll need to find some extra from Melrose Place to voice Optimus Prime, that'll fit more along the lines of the other actors who have been cast.

I read through that whole sorry ass thread and I didn't see anywhere that DM confirmed that Cullen auditioned. I don't doubt that he did, I just didn't see where DM confirmed it.

I'm curious, does Mr. Cullen still sound as good now doing Prime as he did 20+ years ago? I know voices change, has anyone heard him do the voice more recently? Not that it really matters, I'd still love him to reprise the role.

I'd be absolutely floored if he got the part.

I highly doubt he will though. They're aren't making this movie for the fans, they're doing it to make money, plain and simple. Very few people outside of the fandom know who originally voiced Prime.

If the general public hears they're making a TF movie, they will remember who Prime is, but if they hear he's being voiced by Cullen, they'll say, "Who??"

It's sad, but true. I hope they prove me wrong, but most likely, I believe they'll get a big name star to do it. The audition thing is a way to shut us up about it.

If Cullen does get the part, I will have at least a small glimmer of hope that the movie will be decent.

Cullen has been performing the Prime voice in commercials and movie trailers for the last 20 years and he still sounds great. He is older indeed, but not ancient. He's still got good command of his voice.

I hope you were being sarcastic. He may be big in the cartoon voice acting world, but not in hollywood. If you think that they can't afford him, you are sorely mistaken. This isn't $15 million a movie Brad Pitt we are talking about. Most people wouldn't even know who Cullen is.

Hell, the whole cast combined is probably $15 million.

I know Don's manner of speech is difficult to decipher at times, but that was it.

The 'handle the truth' part was referring to how the audition meant. So, we'll see....

I saw Peter Cullen at BotCon 04 and he did both Prime and Ironhide's voices. I thought he sounded great at both of them.

Actually, it's not quite the Prime voice in the commercials and movie trailers. It's an extraordinarily subtle difference. The Prime voice is a little lighter and has a hint of an accent other than the US standard (nowhere near as obviously Western movie as Ironhide, though). His Prime voice does sometimes dip down to what he does for commercials and trailers in the 'darker, more serious' tone for Prime.

I'm hoping he auditioned with just the voice he does for the commercials and movie trailers myself. It seems to fit the tone of what little we know of the direction of the movie better, plus it makes a distinction of not being the John Wayne Prime from the G1 cartoon (never liked the campy too-perfect Prime myself).
