I believe Chris Mcfeely would be able to give a lot of details on these for those interested, given that he did commentary for them.

I think I might actually pick this up, it's quite a steal at that price...

$80?? for 130+ episodes? considering i probably paid around $200 total for the five boxed sets with 98 episodes i'd say that's a good deal. however, i'll hold out for a few things.

Zone is definitely included. It's on the 4th disc of Victory now.

Probably to prevent people from selling the contents individually...

    Fat chance, meathead!

First, let me make one thing clear - Zone *IS* on this set. However, for reasons I don't understand (copyright, trademark, Japanese wouldn't fork it over, I don't know), like Scramble City on the UK's version of the movie, it is taken from that bootleg that goes about, hence it has hard (non-removable) subs. However, it does NOT suffer from the rather embarassingly bad standards conversion that Scramble City did, which left it washed in green. It's been added to the final disc of Victory.

Otherwise, the set is the same as the three individual boxsets of the series that have been released over the last few years.

Headmasters is Region 0, and features both the Japanese audio track with subtitles, and the StarTV dub. Well, the set was Region 0... not sure if they're re-pressed the discs as Region 2 for this set.

Masterforce and Victory, on the other hand, were and are Region 2, and feature only the Japanese audio with subtitles (by Jordan Derber of TVNihon!)

    Everything's PAL.

Each set has audio commentary on three episodes by me, and Zone has one too. The booklets that originally accompanied each set remain included with this collected edition. The packaging for each set was a fold-out tray inside a sleeve - for this set, the individual sleeves are removed, and all three folding trays are held inside one big ol' sleeve.

    Japanese with english subtitles.

Headmasters has the abysmal english dub if you're feeling masochist.

    Usually less then a week.

I might get this, it is a lot of show for your money even if they aren't that great individually.

Funny how no one has brought up the whole "Zone is an exclusive in a box set bundle which most of us already own" point yet, but considering it's the bootleg, I'm not surprised.

I mean, hell, unlike Scramble City, Zone actually WAS released on DVD in Japan (I have a RAW, unsubtitled DivX somewhere), which looks a hell lot better than the bootleg too - why couldn't they just create new subtitles for that one?

Let me tell you that you will be in for a treat my friend. In my opinion they are the best transformers series Japan has to offer. the dubbing is by the same group but they do a much better job with each series.

I hate to ask, but how does one acquire a region free or region 4 dvd player in the US? I'd like to get this set.

Or another option is ripping them onto new dvd's from your computer and stripping the region coding in the process. Then they work on any dvd player and the added bonus of your kids not destroying the originals.

Fantastic news! I gotta get me a set, even if I'm not sure I'll be able to play them.
