    DAMNIT!!!!!!

I was getting off the expressway exit and suddenly - BAM no brakes.

Luckily I was right by my house and only had a mile to go I drove very slow and shifted into neutral and used to parking brake to make stops.

I can not fucking believe this happened this close to Christmas - it's going to be a joy finding out how much it's going to cost to get it fixed. :mad

Ouch! I feel your pain. My brakes have went out before too. I started my car one day, and as soon as I put it in reverse, it lurched backwards and the brakes did nothing. I slammed the emergency brake just before going through my niehbors fence.

You should bust out that wii now and play the pain away. ;)  Go ahead you deserve it.

I know it sucks and probably wont be cheap to fix, but damn, your still super lucky, I was driving a 81 Impala, big metal beast and lost my brakes at the top of this hill. I ended up with a new caprice crammed into the side of my wheel well. I was just happy I didn't hit anyone or go through a house. The name of the guy I hit was Mr. Car which I though was hilarious but he came out swore at me, locked himself in his car and called the cops, so I just sat on top of my car at rush hour at the busiest interesection in my neighbourhood waving to people I know driving and walkin by.

So anyway, at least you only have to fix the brakes

I do feel lucky I didn't rear-end anyone or go flying into a house.

Still, I'm pissed that it happened, II'll have to get it fixed right away, as my wife needs her car for shuttling the kids around.

Ye gods! Glad you're ok, DC. Hope some assclown didn't cut your lines or anything. (on the bright side, that would be pretty cheap to fix, at least mechanically.)

You likely either blew the master cylinder, or have a fluid leak in one of the lines.

Fixing a leaking line should be quick and fairly easy, replacing the master cylinder could get pricey, unless you want to do it yourself.

I don't know what car you drive and what kind of a braking system it has. I had the same thing happen to me twice, once while driving on a busy road. Lucky me my parking brake was excellent so I could use it to brake. When I took it the first time for repairs, a braking plate fell out on the front left wheel. The repair man told me to pump the brake when next time this happens, so the piston will do the braking directly. It's safer that way than using the parking brake, because both of your hands are on the steering wheel. Second time this brake mishap happened, I pumped and it worked.

As others have said, be grateful that you didn't hit anyone or anything.

What if you don't have an emergency break? I guess you're boned?

My car just has a parking break on the floor that you can drive with if you leave it on lol

Ive had to go through that twice on previous cars. It's incredibly scary too when it happens, especially on a major road or highway.

I just hope that the bill isn't scarier.

I have a 4 year old vehicle and the transmission started acting up. The dealer called yesterday and told me it would be $450 so that's not so bad, but not something I like to pay for before the holidays. I may actually just trade it in for a new car though.
