Aw, I thought this was gonna be a thread about the old pay music channel.

On topic, "The Box" is just a slight variation on the old "Monkey's Paw" stories. Everything rip-offs everything else I guess. Also the complete wiki-article states that the Twilight Zone episode and the movie are based off the same short story.

Yeah, I thought that was a bit silly when I read that. The short story basically had the same twist as in Monkey's Paw, the Twilight Zone episode was a bit more original and added some karmic justice, at least. I'm not sure what the author of the short story would be so upset about it.

.....how is this going to be turned into a movie?

You do realize that the director is Richard Kelly? The creator of Donnie Darko and Southland Tales, two of the most original movies created in the past decade.

I dunno, he just didn't like the changes. Just writer's prerogative, I guess. From what I've read, Richard Kelly is really padding the story out, and making it into a morally tale. I can't wait.

    From IMDB,

That may be so but that doesn't make this any more "original"

Hmmm... very interesting episode. Shame I never watched The Twilight Zone...

I seriously can't wait for this movie (The Box). I saw the trailer when I went to see The Final Destination and it was awesome. And the music in the background sinched it for me. (SAW   )

Maybe we'll get both versions on DVD...? It's happened before... I personally want to see both versions so I can compare them myself. Eeeee! Friday November 13th!

It's an adaptation of a short story that happens to have a Twilight Zone episode. I really don't see the problem here.

Just looking at the half assed, plot hole ridden garbage we've been getting, adapting a Matheson story is pretty damn brilliant, if not original.
There are so many short stories/Novellas from the 20's and 30s that are pure horror movie gold.

One of my favorite stories from Weird Tales magazine was called "The Automatic" and at first read, it is just a story about mobsters and betrayal.
Read it again....you caught it, yet?
Read it again....now you get it.
turns out that one of the characters was a witch/warlock of sorts, and instead of a black cat, his familiar was his .45 Automatic.

not shit yourself scary, but still a spooky campfire tale.

so i am hopeful The Box does well, encourages more producers and writers to mine the untapped stuff of old.
