All of them, but especially Hound and Ravage. Probably my favorite toy ever.

Optimus over Hound/Mirage/Bumblebee/Inferno because not only didn't he get shafted on weapons but he's got TWO!!!! built in guns.

It doesn't make a freakin' awesome Classics Hoist.

On to the topic. I'm going to run with an all-around "all of them" as my answer. I didn't have too many G1 figures, so I can't say with specifics about what's better in which ways. But Hot Rod is probably my favorite Classics figure overall, and looks to be a good improvement to the toy without having to change much about what he originally was and how he originally looked.

Ok, fair enough cause it's Hoist and therefore, how freakin' awesome can he be really? I would say that at the very least it does really well for a passable substitute.

Hound. I love how they did the feet on him to resemble the original. Sideswipe/Sunstreaker is a close second.

IMO,Starscream and the other Seekers. Hound is a good update too, along with the Ravage figure he comes with.

There's no "best update" because all mold are quite nice to me! Only Grimlock was a let down, but look quite nice as Overkill. Hot Rod is also so-so, but not bad still. All the rest is awesome and is worthy of the space it take on the shelves :D

You're taking crazy pills. IMO, Henkei/Classics Bumblebee is the greatest Bumblebee figure ever made.

It really has less to do with it being Hoist and more to do with the figure still just being a green Longarm. The toy honestly doesn't evoke any "Classics" or "geewun" elements in my eyes. It's a movie figure repainted as a G1 homage.

Definitely either TFU 2.0 Cyclonus or the Classics Seeker mold, before it started to degrade.

Hound and Mirage. Love 'em both. Hound fit's his "kid appeal" cartoony-ness and Mirage is just awesome.

    this...but Ultra class Warpath.

    Inferno is (imo) just perfect.

    Sunstreaker/Sideswipe comes very close.

I can't just pick one, I like em all, Prime is love, Megatron (Henkei) is very cool, BB is great, I can go on and on.

I would say, Galvitron is my least fav, to small, if he was a Mega, or Ultra, then I would have no real problem with the dude.
